Hello,

Small post, I hope this is the correct community.

I am based in Europe, and it's funny to see comments and posts coming when people in the US end their work day or check Lemmy at lunch.

Reminds me a bit of Reddit in the old days, when you could feel the pulse of the different populations. Makes the whole experience a bit more organic.

That's all for me, have a good one!

Try running global Internet services offered in multiple languages. With the right kind of monitoring, you can see individual countries waking up and going to sleep, without any geolocation, just by watching changes in language mix.

Good day to my fellow Americans, may you enjoy your afternoon.

Going to sleep now 😴

good morning!

(assuming notifications don't wake you up)

I don’t have them since I’m still trying to figure out which app I’m going to use to access Lemmy

Edit: Good morning!

20 hours later, I hope you had a great sleep and are having a fantastic evening!

I've noticed that I often wake up to some notifications after going to sleep at midnight local time. It's like opening some presents every morning.

[-] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 year ago

Definitely my feeling too!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I admit it, I'd be disappointed if I woke up and checked and no one had replied to me overnight.

American here. When I start seeing European posts in my All feed I know I've stayed up too late and need to go to bed. It's fun to see them, too. Sometimes I almost think I can understand the Dutch headlines.

[-] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 3 points 1 year ago

That happens to Germans when they get drunk too. Same language

[-] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I've heard that the Dutch are really Germans who suffered head injuries. Since they cannot drive safely in their condition, they were sent to the Netherlands to recover where they can get around on foot or on bicycle.

[-] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Ha ha ha, makes sense for you to have the opposite perspective!

[-] imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

As an American who works nights, it's been a trip. In the best possible way.

[-] Dinodicchellathicc@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Lol yeah my posts get zero traffic until after I wake up so i miss out on being able to respond usually

[-] imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Still up? Yeah I kinda like when I pop off 10 comments and get nothing, go to bed, and then wake up and they have a bunch of upvotes and replies. It's a nice little surprise but it does make it hard to hold a conversation sometimes

[-] Dinodicchellathicc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That's been exactly my experience so far lol

I'd throw you way off. I'm in the U.S. but I'm usually awake by 4 am (thanks, dogs), my lunch is at 10:45 and I'm usually in bed by 8 due to the aforementioned dogs waking me up at 4.

[-] Death2lois@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Hello fellow forced to be morning bird! Not dogs for me though sadly, work. Critters go nuts once they know I'm up though!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Work starts at 7. At this point, I sort of enjoy having 3 hours of quiet before work. I have a relaxing cup of tea, I exercise, I hang out with the mutts, etc. It does suck that I have to be in bed so early, but it sucks more for my wife because I can't be out late anywhere at this point. If I try really hard, I can stay up until 10. It took excess caffeine to get me to stay up until midnight on NYE (I can't remember why I had to now).

And what sucks is that if I do stay up late, I can't sleep in the next day because the dogs wake me up! I wish I was the sort of person that can just go back to sleep once they've been woken up, but when I'm awake, I'm awake.

Oh man, I always hated it. When the Americans come out I find the quality of Internet discourse drops significantly and the chums come out in force.

[-] imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago

Americans are chuds, Europeans are snobs. It is known.
