Of course they do! Because this was never about protecting anyone. There are parental controls on devices for that purpose.
VPN doesn't always get around the age verification now! Some sites have turned on age verification everywhere, even in countries it is not legally required. Guess it was easier that way.
It's not "pointless" if that's exactly the point of it.
