In their defense, they provided some specific details that help to paint a very clear picture of the scene. You get very different rumors at "a beer bar in the pnw" vs. "wine bar in California" vs. "martini bar in Toronto" vs. "dive bar in Chicago" (that one also has the entrance to the Thieves Guild)
That latter kind in Minneapolis is especially niche as the foyer is a two-part locked and obfuscated affair that only allows a single entrant at a time. While the rest of the group waits in the initial enclosure, each individual in turn is allowed to progress into the second section, and there is given a mystery task to complete before being allowed into the bar/guild's interior.

What’s a “beer bar”?
Probably meant a dive bar, or generally just a spot where most people are drinking beer, as opposed to a liquor bar where most people are drinking mixed drinks. They have distinct atmospheres.
Maybe they meant a brewery's bar.

Yes, a beer bar is a bar, that's how subcategories work. Feel free to check the wikipedia article on bars for more infos on different bar types! Believe it or not, they're not all the same and most bars serve alcoholic beverages that aren't beer!
Only reading this did I realize it didn't say "bear bar". I just assumed it was a gay bar, it made more sense than "beer bar".
