I still don't get how - with such a perfect tee-up - we settled on "X, the platform formerly known as Twitter".

Besides, imagining Musks reaction to this tickles me slightly.

I still prefer to write it “xitter” pronounced as “shitter”.

I was taking that to be "zitter" like it's infected and probably should be seen by a professional otherwise it's going to leave a nasty mark.

In Chinese pinyin x is a sh sound.

You know, you may have just changed my mind

And there’s the issue. There are just too many good jokes to be had here.

The other half is that news organizations won’t let themselves place a joke over the appearance of objectivity, using the legally changed name of the company. The most they will do is add the parenthetical (formerly Twitter).

Journalists are wet blankets. What can you do?

😕 🤚 X, formerly known as Twitter

😎 👉 Xitter, pronounced as Shitter

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

Didn't South Park call it Shitter first?

Scary how prophetic satire is

[-] seaQueue@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

I'll call it Twatter until the day I die

[-] pre@fedia.io 31 points 9 months ago

While it still says "twitter.com" in the SSL certificate, that's still it's name. It is still called Twitter.

[-] kubica@kbin.social 13 points 9 months ago

I'll have to think about it, meanwhile I'll keep calling twitter, twitter.

It is referencing Prince. He went by a symbol and people called him, The Artist (Formerly Known as Prince).

The trouble with that is that it shows a certain amount of respect

[-] ook_the_librarian@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

And it's owned by the X billionaire Elon Musk.

[-] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Hopefully, he'll soon be an ex-billionaire.

[-] ook_the_librarian@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Honestly, I was just hoping it might help him realize how dumb X sounds to everyone else.

Site: Twatter. Users: Twats.

[-] root_beer@midwest.social 7 points 9 months ago

I’ve already posted this elsewhere but

[-] lntl@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 months ago

i have a longing for the day when Twitter is bailed out because it's tOo BIg to fAiL

[-] Rottcodd@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago

I prefer "used-to-be-twitter." I think it captures the context better, and it's clunky, as it should be.

[-] CluckN@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Because ex-Twitter doesn’t get the same SEO as Twitter nor X.

[-] spittingimage@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Why are we still talking about it? Yesterday's news, man.
