lmao:

Personal Data processed for the following purposes and using the following services:

Advertising AdMob Personal Data: Trackers; unique device identifiers for advertising (Google Advertiser ID or IDFA, for example); Usage Data

Amazon Mobile Ads Personal Data: Trackers; Usage Data

I just paid to disable the ads and tracking. It's worth it for me, a longtime Sync user.

[-] los_wochos@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago

Might as well keep using Connect. It's a nice app.

[-] Finkler@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah back on Connect myself but the previous release as it now has pag numbers which just really seems a strange thing to add and for some reason just niggles me enough to make it annoying. But that's just me

[-] Zeus@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

yeah... i certainly won't be using it

it's a shame, as it has some nice features that no other client has; but the privacy policy is just incredible

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Most of us who were excited for this were eager to support the dev and therefore no ads or tracking

[-] OtakuAltair@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Well worth the 20$ to remove the ads and support the dev!

[-] Zeeroover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 year ago

Spend your money more wisely and support Lemmy devs (and instances) which don't have ads and tracking.

[-] OtakuAltair@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah you should definitely be donating to instances first. Clients come later.

[-] Zeeroover@lemmy.dbzer0.com -3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, piggybacking off of the hard work all the devs and instances put in is really annoying. Sync brought Reddit to Lemmy (unfortunately). Time to move on I guess.

[-] OtakuAltair@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

'Piggybacking' is a weird way to put it when good clients are an important part of a website, and Sync is a fantastic one. That's one of the big reasons people moved off of reddit, no?

Sync brought Reddit to Lemmy

Yeah that's... the goal

[-] Zeus@lemm.ee -4 points 1 year ago

*per year

also, as a closed-source app, there's no guarantee that actually removes tracking. i'm not going to say sync does this, because that would be libel, but there's nothing stopping sync collecting everything it can collect anyways and selling them to the highest bidder, just not showing actual ads in-app

The yearly subscription is for Ultra. The ad removal option in profile -> remove ads is permanent.

LJ has always been very open with the community the whole time Sync was for reddit. You could post about it in !syncforlemmy@lemmy.world if you're worried about tracking

i'm going to take you at your word, as i can't see that option to prove or disprove (you sure it's in profile, not settings?)

i know. i never really used sync after the redesign, but i have full respect for mr dawson.

honestly there's no real point, many people have done so already. but i personally don't like the privacy policy, and the fact i would have to agree to firebase & crashlytics to use the app (i'm actually pro opt-out telemetry; but not un-opt-able and not via google). and sync is nice, but it's not that much nicer than thunder

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It was pushed out as an update yesterday a few hours after the initial open beta launch. Make sure yours is fully updated.

The dev actually listened to user feedback after the big redesign and I was able to customize it to what I wanted.

so it was. i still maintain that £18.99 is a bit steep though.

yeah, that's what i heard. but i'd already moved on to slide, and now i'm happy enough with thunder

[-] jonhanson@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Should it be possible to login to the app using kbin.social credentials? Doesn't seem to work for me.

[-] Rossel@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

It isn't, Kbin hasn't finished its API and therefore doesn't currently support third party apps.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

In the future, but right now Sync is only a Lemmy. In the meantime for kbin Artemis is pretty good and where public beta this week.
