I'm going to do these periodically.

Title kinda says all.

I'll have my own reply later.

Special weekly question:

What do you like most about 2023's repertoire of video games?

I haven't played games in a very long time. But I would like to be able to play Cities: Skylines. Don't really have room for a decent setup right now unfortunately.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 1 points 11 months ago

Fair. I would suggest getting back into video games as there's more variety now when it comes to genres, but that's just me, and it's up to you, of course.

Baldur's Gate 3 babyyy

As a fan of the old games, this sequel really is something incredibly special. And as someone who has a difficult time committing to live D&D sessions, my itch is sufficiently scratched.

Recently played Pathfinder: Wath of the Righteous and Pyschonauts 2. Really enjoyed both of them, the first because I cut my teeth on D&D 3.x and have loved the base system ever since, and the second because it's a really good follow up to the original. Interesting new powers and worlds, lots of really entertaining characters again, and a surprise appearance from Jack Black. Surprise to me, at least.

Currently I'm working through Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, and Vermintide 2 with my best mate. Youngblood is scratching the nazi killing itch, but I think New Order was still the best in the series - the RPG elements just aren't needed. Vermintide 2 is turning into a lot of fun now I'm understanding the characters abilities better, but I imagine we're going to lose interest before actually reaching really high power levels.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn has had me sucked in for months now. I know a lot has been changed/improved/added to over the decades, but I can see why it was so influencial on the tactics genre. I nearly have all the postgames spells unlocked, so soon I'll be going back to the start and taking alternate routes through the story. Possibly with some ogre blade body snatching along the way.

Oh yeah, big fan of Owlcat Games due to both their Pathfinder games, including and especially Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. On another note, I still plan to play Tacctics Ogre: Reborn, though my interest is admittedly waning nowadays (too many games).

More vic3. Finally getting the hang of 1.5 economy for Great Qing.

I'm currently obsessing over Signalis again. It's so good... But so heartbreaking. I just can't stop hurting myself with it emotionally.

Owlcat makes some damn fine CRPGs so I'm excited for Rogue Trader to come out this week. While waiting for it I finally got around to finishing FF13 for the first time since it released. I'm actually kind of mad at myself for waiting so long because everyone kept saying how much it sucked. It's not the best FF game or anything but I liked it a lot and will eventually play its two sequels as well.

Oh snap, I forgot it came out this week!

The Invincible by 11 bit studios was a very cool experience. Played it over the weekend last month. It has this Soviet sci fi story aesthetic (of course bc it’s based on a story by Lem), great tension build up, great conversations, branching story that actually branches.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 1 points 11 months ago

Oh damn, based on one of Lem's stories (I forgot his first name)?

Nice!

[-] starkillerfish@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 11 months ago

yeah its stanislaw lem! same person who wrote solaris. the game is based on the story of the same name 'the invincible'. the story in the game is about the same planet as in the book, but with different characters.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 1 points 11 months ago

Yikes, how could I forget the name "Stanislaw"? It's similar to the name of one of my favorite characters in fiction!

Answer to your special weekly question: Lunacid is the best game to come out of 2023 or at least the one I’ve had the most fun with. Great vibes all around.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

I'll check it out! Thank you!

I haven't played anything since uni started back in September, but I'm halfway through Final Fantasy 7. I've been playing them all kinda in order and I'm excited for FF8-10 but I can't bring myself to play anything, I just listen to music, browse Lemmy and do homework.

Other than that I've been meaning to finish Left 4 Dead 2 with my online friends, and also TLoZ Oracle of Ages (which I emulate on Android through Lemuroid, seriously check it out, it's on F-Droid). I also play Need for Speed 2000 from time to time, it's a great simcade featuring only Porsche cars, from the beginning up to the year 2000 (when it came out).

real

[-] big_spoon@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 11 months ago

god of war ragnarok

even when it's a jaded kratos with a teenager son eager for war, the lore is interesting

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 1 points 11 months ago

At this point, Super Mario should have a son and be a jaded old man.

[-] homhom@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 11 months ago

I picked up a PC version of stardew valley so I can restart with mods and I'm obsessed(again)

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

Never played it, but I know everyone that has played it has liked it.

Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic and Minecraft.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

Heard great things about that first one.

Recently I have played Captain of Industry (I love every factory game just about. Though Dyson Sphere Program is my favourite still) and Steamworld Build. CoI is alright, but I don't love the real world setting as much as other factory games. Steamworld Build is fun for a good 8-10 hours, great aesthetic. More of a puzzle-city builder than anything else.

My favourite 2023 Game:

Sea of Stars. I expected it to just be a bit of nostalgia for old JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, which it is, but it also ended up being a wonderful game on its own right. Great animation, and some legitimately heartwarming moments.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

Sea of Stars is on my to-do list, definitely.
