I agree with you. At least we can be certain it was not the western supplied cluster shells that they promised not to use in populated areas: Ukrainians have been very strict about sticking to thekt promises.

As for Russians we also know they have been lying for as long as we know them, I grep up in a country on Russias doorstep and even as a child I heard my dad joking about them and their somewhat conflicted relationship with facts.

But it wasn't until this war that I realized that this isn't just old jokes but todays reality: "We will of course not attack Ukraine!", "Moskva runs bybits own engine towards Sevastopol", "Ukrainians shoot prisoners in the knees" (but they have thick Russian accent and a day later a video of the rehearsal video is released and everyone can see how they rehearsed "getting shot in the knees"), "Ukrainian shelled Olevnika" (but no Russian guards were hot) etc etc.

There are literal pictures in the article.

Ukraine is the rightful side of this conflict but that does not mean that ugly acts of war are not produced by their side as well. Donetsk city was shelled since the beginning of the war, for example. I wish for Ukraine to win soon and a just peace to ensue so this kind of shit can not happen.

Hold on:

Even Wagner boss Prigozhin admitted recently that [everyone knows] that Ukraine did not shell Donetsk, they only attacked military positions.

Don't fall for Russian propaganda and don't repeat it.

(For those who think "but both sides": Donetsk looked better after 8 years of supposed "Ukrainian artillery shelling" than any other place looked after a week of "Russian liberation".)

PS: I didn't downvote as I hope this was an hones mistake. And yes, I know Ukrainians have done wrong things too, but I will point out whenever I see falsehoods posted.

There are literal pictures in the article.

There are images of a burning building. We can't tell who hit it and with what.

From the article itself:

Kostrubitsky said Ukrainian forces used cluster munitions in the shelling that caused the blaze. Reuters could not independently verify the information. Both sides have used cluster munitions in the course of Russia's 17-month invasion of Ukraine.

such lovely propagana.

Oh. they have pictures. It absolutely must have been the Ukranians who sent the cluster bombs. absolutely couldn't have been the russians then taking pictures. not at all. russians would never do that. they're so upstanding and integriful. or something.

/s Russian propaganda is Russian propaganda... and it's surprisingly transparent.

Ukraine is justified to raze the city to the ground if they so choose. It's being occupied and used for cover by an enemy that is raping, kidnapping, and torturing their citizens. Ideally this would cause 0 casualties to Ukrainian civilians, but that's unrealistic, so every civilian death attributed to Ukrainian shelling on Russian forces is the fault of Russian occupation in my opinion.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

DONETSK, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Flames engulfed a university building's wooden roof in Donetsk following Ukrainian shelling on Saturday, said an emergency official in the Russia-controlled city in eastern Ukraine.

"As a result of the latest attack on Donetsk, the first building of the University of Economics and Trade is on fire," Alexei Kulemzin, the Russia-installed mayor, said on Telegram.

"We are using 12 water tanks, three ladders and 100 fire fighters," said Alexei Kostrubitsky, the Russia-installed emergency minister for the region that Moscow calls the Donetsk People's Republic.

Kostrubitsky said Ukrainian forces used cluster munitions in the shelling that caused the blaze.

Ukraine, which received supplies of U.S. cluster munitions last month, has vowed to use them only to dislodge concentrations of enemy soldiers.

Russia's RIA state news agency cited Kostrubitsky and emergency services as saying the fire spread to an area of about 1,800 sq m (19,400 sq ft) before being contained early on Sunday.

It wouldn't surprise me if artillery barrage had fallen on unintended targets. There is plenty of artillery that is simply not all that accurate. The important question here is: What would Ukraine have to gain from attacking that university? It's their city, and it's not like the Russians are going to be conducting cutting edge research at a civil building some ~300 kms away from the battlefield.
