I love how some people think that she's a "moderate" simply because she's not actively trying to destroy democracy out in the open like Trump is.

[-] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 24 points 10 months ago

I don't love it at all. It's fucking terrifying to see just how far right the Overton window has shifted in less than a decade.

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 41 points 10 months ago

Anyone who proudly calls themself a union buster should be thrown head first into a volcano

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 12 points 10 months ago

Too quick and painless. I say burning at the stake is better.

[-] Milk_Sheikh@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

If you’re gonna go medieval, why not commit and do it like the ancients did?

[-] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 months ago

Damn, that's some rough torture..... fitting

[-] minibyte@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

Ground up and fed to their starving party members.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 26 points 10 months ago

Added to my list of Things I didn't realize anyone was fooled into

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

He's running out of obvious things to state to get attention, so now he's stating super obvious things.

[-] Signtist@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

You'd think, but I've had to explain a lot of very obvious points to people I thought were smart. I've slowly learned that nothing is truly obvious, and that you should check in to make sure everyone's on the same page quite often.

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 1 points 10 months ago

The problem with this guy is that he doesn't post in an informative way, he posts in an antagonistic "Why aren't you thinking the way I'm thinking you fucking shrubs?" kind of way.

[-] Signtist@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

That's fair, though I can certainly empathize with an exacerbated voice of reason desperately crying out to deaf ears.

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

🤣 Like Republicans wouid elect a brown woman

This is a case of being saved by their racism.

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 12 points 10 months ago

They're all fascists.

There was a failed coup.

The party is complicit and must be dismantled.

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago

Haley and DeSantis are extremely reactionary and right wing. That should be clear.

However, they arent as much psychopathic narcissists hellbent on destroying democracy like Trump.

[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

The decision between her and Trump won't be made by moderates, let alone the majority. There's a far few steps between this comment and the current reality.

  1. Trump should be removed from the ballot, for his crimes
  2. Trump supporters need to be convinced that that is right
  3. Republicans should lose the election, for the fact they do not represent any reasonable majority
  4. Trump supporters need to be convinced that that is right

Points 2 and 4 currently lie beyond that of any rational democratic system. Civil war is looming. Meanwhile, the US' enemies are looking for an opening to change the status quo - and Trump is ready to hold the door open to them.

[-] SasquatchBanana@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Could I at least point out how I barely hear about DeSantis anymore? It's so funny with how the establishment pretty much created that amalgam and he was still so unlikeable.

[-] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

I really appreciate Robert Reich's takes on US politics. He always makes at least the main points clear, and doesn't add fluff. If only he was heard by the right people more often.

[-] Neato@ttrpg.network 6 points 10 months ago

Republicans support a person and policy to not recognize legitimate elections. There ARE no moderate Republicans.

[-] doylio@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

She has one thing going for her though, she doesn't seem to be an active threat to democracy. Specific policy disagreements can be worked out over time, but lose self governance and it's hard to get back

[-] shoobeedoobee@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

Another one for the hit list. This country needs to counterbalance what they are planning. Like a barber, just a little off the top. Eliminate the traitorous ones on the payroll of China and Russia. And if you say the ones who are obviously taking money are not, then you need to shut the hell up now. What i want to know is where in the hell are the "intelligence" agencies during all of these last 6 years of the Trump effect? MIchael Flynn?!? What is it going to take? They are enemies of the state.

[-] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 1 points 10 months ago

What the hell are you on about?

[-] Sanity_in_Moderation@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

If she wins New Hampshire, Trump will turn on her like a rabid dog. The division that he will create will ensure a Biden victory. If I lived in New Hampshire, I would be pushing every liberal I knew to support her.

[-] ReallyKinda@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago

Wonder why he’s not encouraging republicans to vote for the lessor of two evils /s

[-] quindraco@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Nikki Haley would be less bad than Trump, without question. He'a the worst POTUS we've ever had, and we had Andrew Jackson.

[-] BeerMedic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Rotten POS.

[-] soviettaters@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Seems moderate to me. All of those points have been basic conservative beliefs for years (pre-2016).

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

GOP haven't been moderate since before Nixon.

[-] soviettaters@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

What positions do you consider moderate then? If there were to be a moderate conservative party, what policies would they support?

[-] Milk_Sheikh@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

Here’s some moderate positions:

  • It is plausible that ‘my guy’ can lose an election, and they should accept defeat gracefully
  • Immigration needs overhaul and reform, not purposeful cruelty or a closed border
  • The US should have a firm global policy, but our allies are vitally important to our security
  • Our children are our future as a nation, therefore we need better results from public education, safer roads and parks, stronger laws around child advertising/food additives, etc

You either build or destroy. What has Trump and the MAGA crowd actually built? What can they point to and say “We did that for America, not just our voting bloc” Democrats suffer from voter prioritization as well, but bridges and clean air/water help everyone.

[-] soviettaters@lemm.ee 0 points 10 months ago

Most of that seems like what Nikki Haley supports anyways. She admits that Trump lost in 2020, she hasn't said anything terribly extreme on immigration (not that the president is even the final say in domestic matters), she obviously supports our allies as she used to be our rep for the UN, and she doesn't do anything about how bad our education system is just like every other politician.

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Actually wanting to conserve things, like the environment or peoples general well-being. Taking responsibility for their actions, and acknowledging failures. Fiscal responsibility. Secularism, maybe not personally but at least professionally.

Basically not being regressive douchebags who use perceived and mimicked "divine right" to trick people into thinking they have to vote for the GOP or the devil will eat their souls.

Edit: one last thing, the ability to compromise and work with their compatriots with differing political alignments for the betterment of the people they serve.

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 1 points 10 months ago

Nixon was more moderate than a lot of Dems, in some ways. Environment, and iirc, health policy, until he drank the Kaiser-Garfield Koolade.

[-] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Matty Healy

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 0 points 10 months ago

It’s worse, because she’s twice a minority who doesn’t want to do anything for minority. And iirc, was a teacher who doesn’t want to do anything for teachers or the (mis)educational system to balance it in any way.
