I get more of a school bully vibe from it. The stereotypical old person joke is "wife bad", this sounds more like something a self-described "alpha male" would say.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

"Bullying and sex-shaming funny" is just as much of a boomer humor cliché as "wife bad", though.

[-] fushuan@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

"sure was hard when you mom was bouncing on it last night"

...and that's a beating from the bully.

A comeback to likely piss off said boomer since they are probably homophobic too.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

The original was better, since he left the antagonizer to his misery without any engagement, and went back to having fun.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

Except that he's scowling.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Oh, that wasn't obvious on my phone screen until I zoomed in just now.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

It is actually kind of nice that your mind went to him just enjoying life and not being bothered by bullies.

Gen-X here. Can confirm that "virgin", " nerd", and "" were preferred punch lines by the boomers.

[-] almar_quigley@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

Also judging people for having a harmless hobby that doesn’t conform to their world view.

[-] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 years ago

By millenials still early 2000s, and you have to add ethnic slurs on that list

[-] almar_quigley@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

We watched an old episode of friends for nostalgia recently and the whole punchline of the entire episode was “yeah but you kissed a dude”.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 3 points 2 years ago

Wasn't nerd still common bullying word in 80' and 90'? Then nerds became the richest people with the internet and it doesn't work anymore.

[-] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 years ago

Needs the last panel to be blue shirt tied to a kite and flying away.

[-] almar_quigley@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

I can picture it and it’s wonderful!

[-] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The moral of this comic is the last pane, where the hobbyist goes back to doing what they enjoy and the other guy is still a miserable, lonely cunt.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 years ago

I regularly flew kites from the campus yard in college (many moons ago). It was just something I had enjoyed doing with my mother who had died during my senior year of high school. I was never called a virgin for it, but I did get laid a lot thanks to it. It's a wholesome conversation starter plus I think it made me approachable. Thanks mom.

[-] watty@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago

It's hard to make time for sex when you are learning how to fly a kite from its tail. The man is defying basic physics right there.

[-] DaGeek247@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago

Now there's a throwback to '90s/early internet humor.

[-] Isoprenoid@programming.dev 16 points 2 years ago

This kind of joke pre-dates the internet.

What's the hardest part about ?

Telling your parents that you're gay.

This joke just switches homophobia with virginity shame.

[-] DaGeek247@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

I have no doubt about that. The virginity part was what dated this specific iteration of it.

[-] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Staying a virgin is easy. Just develop a shitty personality or maybe even a personality disorder like I did and viola, you are now a forever virgin.

However, living as a virgin is much more difficult. Between self-loathing and depression, you could turn suicidal. Again like I did.

[-] TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

Sorry to hear man, I hope you have found some way to move on and enjoy life

[-] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

At this point, the best I can do is hope. I am lost. Thanks though.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Do you think Benjamin Franklin was a virgin? No. Benjamin Franklin fucked, and flew kites.

[-] don@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

kite: you do realize I’m up here, right

[-] Chriszz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I feel like basic kite flying is wholesome.

[-] ToxicWaste@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Sure seems hard to draw a kite

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
