Ferrari's plan A is to bring Lewis Hamilton to Maranello. Uncontrolled rumours even give the deal as done with an announcement possible in the next few days

[Antonio Lobato]

I don't usually comment on rumors, but this one is more than a rumor. As far as I have been able to find out the chances of Lewis Hamilton wearing Ferrari red in 2025 are very high, in fact I don't rule out that he is already signed. Lewis is under contract until the end of 2025, but with an exit option in 2024. The move has caught Mercedes on the wrong foot, while Carlos Sainz was expecting it. This year will be difficult for Carlos at Ferrari, but his options for 2025 are several: a year of waiting at Sauber until it becomes Audi in 2026 or even a possible negotiation with Mercedes to take Hamilton's place.

Obviously, the news cycle was not working for F1, so they changed the narrative. Everybody will forget about Andretti.

The 2024 season not even started, and it's about 2025. Will he race through the season knowing nothing matters, because he will leave anyway? It would be terrible for team morale, it sounds strange, fishy. Also Hamilton has a contract for 2025 with Merc.

Everything hints it's fake.

Silly season getting really spicy

[-] cooltrainer_frank@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

I know there's some reputable places reporting this now, but it just feels fake.

The timing is super silly. He has the money to break any contract.

Why not go now if you're gonna go for 1 year of these engines, in a year?

Why even have these talks this early? It's just gonna fuck up the season for you and for both teams?

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Remember how the Seb/Carlos Story broke. IT's reasonable to assume that Ferrari does lock in their driver pairing for a season one year in advance.

Ferrari really playing the chaotic neutral role here quite well.

[-] egonallanon@lemm.ee 11 points 2 years ago

If this turns out to be true I'd be surprised as I assumed Hamilton would see his career out at merc. Also if true Ferrari must've made one hell of an offer to get him.

Swap with ham? I can't remember when everyones contracts expire.

They could take botas back? Or get Albon from Williams?

[-] BURN@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Albon could be a good choice. If they can get him from Williams I’m convinced he could fight at the pointy end of the grid.

[-] hydrashok@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

Sainz could also take Checo’s seat at RB. That’d be interesting.

[-] BURN@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Sainz won’t ever get the RB seat. Jos and Sainz Sr caused a lot of problems when they were both at TR, leading to Sainz leaving the RBDA

Sainz is a really attractive free agent now, I'd think. He's maybe not got the same raw pace as some of the others at the front of the grid, but he's incredibly tactical. If I was a midfield team looking for somebody who could outperform my chassis I'd be making a spot for him on my 2025 roster right now.

It's where world champions go to die. Traditions.

Vettel and Alonso must have been really applying the peer pressure. "I'm sure you'll be the one to un-Ferrari Ferrari! Don't take heed of our experiences!"

Retire in a Ferrari. As bad as they have been, it's still Ferrari

[-] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Eddie Jordan deserves an apology.

No official confirmation yet from either side, but am told Hamilton to Ferrari is accurate. Set to replace Sainz in 2025, forming a partnership with Leclerc. A massive move

[@GiulyDuchessa]

Everything was kept well covered. A window that opened, more and more, as Hamilton and Elkann concluded. Lewis' arrival in Maranello is a historic event for F1 And it's done!
