If the copper moonshine oath didn’t work, I don’t know what to tell you.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 29 points 8 months ago

It's a website where they sell moonshine equipment AND sovcit passports. Of course.

[-] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago

That's brilliant. Is the shine any good?

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

I'm sure it's the one thing they're good at.

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Might be the source of the crazy though.

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Try our special blend, the “Renounce your citizen-sip!”

[-] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 39 points 8 months ago

The crazy part about this shit is that they literally receive no benefits by being difficult.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

They didn't consume lead for their whole lives to let you tell them what they can and can't do.

[-] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 25 points 8 months ago

Looks like "copper moonshine" is a reference to a distillery equipment manufacturer whose owner is big in the movement. Here's a fun doc from them (him?) about how to get a passport. It's pretty wild.

The very first paragraph describes how you can be deprived of your second amendment right to arms.

If you assert that you aren’t a US citizen, why would you give a flying fuck about the second amendment? It certainly wouldn’t apply to you.

“Please do not share this treatise with those of questionable morals.”

[-] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 8 points 8 months ago

I have questionable morals and I'm gonna take it without asking, muhaha.

[-] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Shit! Now I can't read it! My morals are blocking it!

[-] satanmat@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

Damn

Um … yeah okay.

So thanks for that. It was fun to see

[-] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 months ago

You betcha, individual human Satanmat commenting on behalf of the corporation recognized as SATANMAT.

[-] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 8 points 8 months ago

Wow. I love all the weasel words, ‘if it doesn’t work it’s not my fault!’. I am not a lawyer, but even I could find several inconsistencies in that mess. Not to mention, maybe don’t take ‘legal’ advice from someone who makes so many spelling errors.

[-] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

Thank you, I can't look it up right now and it was bugging me.

[-] state_electrician@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

A bit too much moonshine.

[-] theodewere@kbin.social 2 points 8 months ago

Frances McDormand's character from Burn After Reading would understand that perfectly

[-] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 17 points 8 months ago

‘Checking off no to US Citizenship does not prevent you from benefits or rights’…I found the entire Sovereign Citizen ethos right there - they want all the rights and benefits of citizenship without any responsibilities.

[-] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 14 points 8 months ago

So we destroyed your valid US passport. That'll be a $170+ for a new one, but at least you have the comfort of knowing that you stuck to your copper moonshine. Oy.

[-] SirQuackTheDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

One hundred and seventy fucking dollars? I paid 65 euro for my Dutch passport, and together with my ID and drivers license it only just adds up to that.

Three of which I can use as means of identification in NL, two in the EU and one worldwide.

[-] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

It's a sin and a shame, I know.

[-] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 10 points 8 months ago

My passport is the most expensive thing I possess, so this rustles my jimmies. The jimmies of disgust at the waste of time and money.

[-] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

New Orleans passport in Virginia? Wut

[-] Frostbeard@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Not american so I don't really know, but it's probably a central archive facility for the entire nation. Guessing a passport is a federal document so it makes sense that the document handling is centralized
