There's a serious National Security threat, all right. It's currently leading the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination.

A bit more here:

Two sources familiar with the issue said Turner's statement was related to Russia and operations in space, without providing further details on what was described as a highly-classified matter.

Maybe they finally found the Moon Nazis from Iron Sky

I was hoping for space lasers

About time! They've been getting away with it for far too long.

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 22 points 9 months ago

there's no reason for Americans to panic.

"Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open... and feast on the goo inside?"

"Yes, I would, Kent."

Republican fear-mongering has now devolved to, "Something, somewhere will happen, and it'll be very bad. I will not be elaborating or taking any questions."

Buddy, this is Republicans fear mongering about Russia. That makes it more alarming considering how much they love them.

Four sources with knowledge of the issue told NBC News that the threat is a Russian military capability

[…]

Turner recently returned from a congressional delegation trip to Ukraine and said Friday that lawmakers “all have access to the intelligence as to the risk that is faced not only to the United States, our allies, but the world as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.”

We will find out soon at the meeting hopefully, but he cant just go around releasing intelligence information on his own. But take this seriously if even a Republican is worried.

Oh, I know what the threat to America is! It’s everybody with an R next to their name in our government. They say that the R stands for republican, but it really means Russian.

[-] aew360@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

Uhhhm, the article was mostly Republican congressmen urging the President to declassify the briefings and they all said the threat originates from Russia. So this is one of those rare times where Republicans seem to be genuine in their concern

[-] djsoren19@yiffit.net 6 points 9 months ago

Never, ever, ever assume a Republican is being genuine in any way, for any reason, at any time, especially when it is regarding Russia.

One of two things is happening; Putin has either told them what to say in an effort to stir up some nonsense controversy, or he has lied to them about something to make them useful idiots.

Yeaaaah I’m not buying that shit

[-] aew360@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

I mean, I don’t blame you xD

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Or, Putin doesn't know what it is we know about so they call to declassify it all so it can be public

[-] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Somebody got rattled,. The NSA didn't say there wasn't a problem, yet he did a personal briefing to the gang. Bears watching.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON — House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, released an unusual statement Wednesday warning of a "serious national security threat" without providing additional details, pre-empting what the White House said was a planned briefing for congressional leaders.

"Today, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has made available to all Members of Congress information concerning a serious national security threat," Turner wrote in the statement.

On Wednesday afternoon, House members began trickling in and out of the highly secure room in the basement of the Capitol, known as the SCIF, where the most sensitive, classified information is shared with lawmakers.

Sullivan said that earlier this week, he reached out to the Gang of Eight, the top leaders from the House and Senate, "to offer myself up for a personal briefing."

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., and its ranking member, Marco Rubio, R-Fla., were briefed weeks ago on the national security threat identified by Turner, according to two sources with direct knowledge.

One source with knowledge noted that the threat is “not unrelated” to the issues addressed by the currently stalled national security supplemental funding package, which includes aid for Ukraine Israel and Taiwan, but that they are not “directly tied."

The original article contains 826 words, the summary contains 202 words. Saved 76%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

With it relating to Russia and there being a new Security threat all of a sudden, I would bet that it's nuclear related, as in there's either been recent activity at a monitored site. The articles said sources described something space related, so if it's suddenly become a concern then they noticed that something has changed, maybe the flight path of a satellite, or something actively changed on one of their satellites? Maybe they e identified something up there as a potential weapon? Lots of unknowns still.

Yeah, why not. This season is getting kind of humdrum. Let's throw some space aliens in.

Hey, that was last year’s conspiracy. You gotta pick a new one.

Gay Jewish ANTIFA space aliens with lasers
