Steam Deck Australia (lemmy.kde.social)

Has anyone purchased a Steam Deck in Australia and had to use the warranty? If so how was it? Who did you buy through, was the warranty easily navigated etc?

It's super shit that it's still a grey import after all this time. Good luck with it

That's because Valve can't support it there. It's honestly the responsible thing for them to do instead of sell them in Australia anyway and screw any customers out of decent support of any kind at all. The cost would also be inflated by shipping and import taxes, making it less worth it.

They've sold other hardware here, what changed?

This one is fairly fragile and costs magnitudes more than a simple Steam Controller.

Still it's been almost 2 years and the Deck isn't available in a LOT of countries.

I think the scale of producing and supporting a device like this is a lot larger than you think. SteamOS is also out there for use, so nothing is stopping an Australian company from creating a device that runs it. Ayaneo is doing just that, and I'm certain others are as well. You can probably also make your own with another AMD Z1 device like the ASUS ROG handheld.

No, but I've just ordered the dock through Kogan. Will let you know how it goes

Same boat, didn’t want to deal with international or third party warranty. I’m considering the legion go instead as it’s officially released here.

I ordered my Steam Deck through Dick Smith (Kogan.) I have no complaints. I had to use the warranty about two weeks after I received it due to bad pixels. I had a new Steam Deck within a week. They won't repair it because they can't, only replace it. Good enough for me.

Apart from the price we have a pretty good deal - our warranty covers a lot more defects that Valve themselves won't.
