I'm a big fan of Magnus. Dude is overall a good role model, respectful and serious most of the time, while also being meme-ey, approachable and fun. Unique playstyle to boot.

He's actually largely responsible for me personally starting to pay attention to the game again. I hadn't even played in years.

Magnus is so good for the chess community.

Magnus is great, Naroditsky is my favorite though!

I think the rumors about this one guy cheating by allegedly putting something up his ass really resonated with a new generation.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Resonated with him too, if you know what I mean.

As someone who has only seen agadmator's videos.. And no clue about other famous people, can someone tell who are the people in the picture, other than Magnus and Anya Taylor Joy?

[-] 50_centavos@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Bottom right is Levy aka Gotham Chess on YouTube. Top right is another famous YouTuber, I forget her name but she recently won chess streamer of the year (maybe last year).

[-] Jayjader@jlai.lu 4 points 8 months ago

Top right are the Botez sisters, if I'm not mistaken.

As the other response said: top right are the botez sisters, bottom right levy rozman a.k.a. gothamchess, bottom left is tyler1, a famous streamer from the league of legends scene who started playing a lot of chess. Interspersed around the licture are also small hikaru's whom you probably do know if you watch agadmator

Tyler1 is playing chess now?

I don't know how to feel about this.

1500 elo...

Okay, fair enough, I can see there being some transferrable skills.

[-] DingoBilly@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I wouldn't put it as a highlight myself.

Let the spotlight be on good chess streamers who care about the sport VS someone just doing it for the lol.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I've never watched him, but apparently he won "chess streamer of the year" recently, which surprised a lot of people.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's been pretty incredible. He started from absolutely nothing, just ground the everliving hell out of the game, and after a year he's... good.
