The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense claims that it breached the servers of the Russian Ministry of Defense (Minoborony) and stole sensitive documents.

This is enjoyable to hear, but why does Ukraine admit this? Wouldn't it be far better to use the data and encryption software to their advantage and deny any involvement if asked?

Maybe because Russia "hacked" (if the rumours are true, Russia just dialed in) a German defence conference and played the audio track of it with topics of the war in a news show. If Ukraine hacked into russia defence stuff, it shows they're not that great and untouchable.

Add to that, they've probably achieved any goals they had with the hack and were unable to move further or were discovered
