How is it that one political ideology that came close to staging a coup is still being argued about three years later like it's some kind of difficult debate.

If socialists, blacks, Latinos, native Americans, all women had done any of this, the arguments would have over and done with within a year and there would have been no more debate about it.

Far right fascists try to storm government and there's a never ending debate it.

They are still catching and charging people years later.

It's a "debate" because unfortunately around 40% our population is unable to comprehend and discuss complex issues, and instead refuse to accept that what happened on J6 was illegal and have instead co-opted to support and treat them like heroes. I mean, fuck, did you see their last CPAC? They paraded these people around and there was a quote saying that they were going to end democracy.

It's all insane.

And my favorite is rather than let the police, who they support, do their jobs... They're actively doing as much as they can to disrupt that research. Like really pitting police against police. It's hilarious (and painful)

"Why we gotta pay so much in taxes to fund schools? Schools ain't never done nothin for me."

It's way way less than 40% of the population, it's barely 40% of Republicans.

It's interesting then how much the MAGA movement has absolutely hijacked the Republican party due to complacency. The fact that Trump's DIL was able to take the Chair of the RNC is insane to me.

Then again, with how insane Fox News has gotten, I kinda feel like they are low-key trying to getting these 'moderate' conservatives in line with the rest of the MAGA movement.

That's what they are doing yes, it just isn't working very well because their positions are largely vastly unpopular even with their own base.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

There wouldn’t have been an argument.

Machine gun nests and unscalable barricades, and all manner of other things would have been, though.

Literally none of them have 'found out' yet. They all keep getting slaps on the wrist.

[-] Manos@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

That's "literally" not true. Some may be getting off easy, some are definitely doing years in prison.

[-] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

What... Like 10 years tops I think? That's the worst I've heard? For literally attempting to overthrow the government of the United States of America?

Let's see what her sentence is first.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON — A conservative influencer was arrested in California on Jan. 6 charges, including helping to steal a table from a Capitol conference room that the FBI says was used to assault officers just feet away at the lower west tunnel, where some of the most brutal attacks on law enforcement took place.

Isabella Deluca, a fervent supporter of former President Donald Trump, was arrested in Irvine, California, on Friday, according to court records unsealed on Monday.

The table "was subsequently used to assault law enforcements officers guarding the Lower West Terrace Tunnel," the FBI said.

Deluca has racked up hundreds of thousands of followers on social media and was formerly an ambassador for the conservative group Turning Points USA.

In an Instagram comment after the attack, Deluca posted that she got "maced pretty bad about three times" and that she "used milk to get the mace/tear gas out of my eyes."

About 500 people have been sentenced to periods of incarceration that have ranged from a few days behind bars to 22 years in federal prison.
