Coding web-based erotic visual novels starring anthropomorphized music genres

[-] AGreatUsernameChoice@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago

Would we be able to see some examples?

If OP delivers

Use it as an excuse to wear the programming socks

Install a gameboy emulator and play pokemon on public transport with the volume up high

Spend 4 days configging it and then close it.

Seriously though you could throw Wireshark on it and learn about your network.

When I used arch (btw) the only thing I did was using arch. Configuring vim, the tiling wm, editing scripts to automate configuring arch. It was all circular. Arch is the best system for the task of configuring arch, tbh.

Where socks??

Install gentoo for the performance benefits*

*(Degrees of performance increase can vary no guarantees, any performance gained will be spent again preventing library conflicts updating the kernel and generally crying because compiling takes years)

[-] Gabu@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

Holy shit, that's an old (and slow) CPU.

[-] RacoonVegetable@reddthat.com 8 points 7 months ago

Install void Linux and i3wm, then exercise your signature look of superiority on arch Linux plebs.

[-] fallingcats@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 7 months ago

Not using systemd is just setting yourself up for failure later

[-] RacoonVegetable@reddthat.com 1 points 7 months ago

Average soystemd fan:

To be fair, I ran gentoo with openrc for 3 years and it was mostly fine. Init systems don't matter that much.

What would be funny is to have the musl void run on OP's beast.

[-] michael_palmer@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I use alpine linux with musl and openrc. It's an old laptop, so I use it only for torrenting and watching movies. Basic stuff work just fine. The only thing that doesn't is Nvidia proprietary driver.

[-] MetricIsRight@lemmy.ca 8 points 7 months ago

You could play a game of Global Thermonuclear War

[-] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Well, if it has an internet connection, then almost certainly porn

Use it as a server with built in backup battery for running P2P stuff.

I have a similar setup for using syncthing (P2P file synchronization) that allowed me to get rid of centralized cloud stuff.

Lots of options tho, you can run a non-exit tor node (thats the safe kind that wont attract cops to your door), torrenting stuff (be safe duh), etc

[-] PipedLinkBot@feddit.rocks 1 points 7 months ago

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

run a non-exit tor node

Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.

I'm open-source; check me out at GitHub.

You're already doing it.

[-] bruhsoulz@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 months ago

Which is a significant portion of them nowadays

[-] HelloHotel@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Yeah, and its also beginning to affect youtube videos too! cough webm caugh

[-] bruhsoulz@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

Any clues on how to get regular mp4 anime torrents? Ion wana have to use my newer laptop cus the whole point of having the old one is to avoid battery wear and tear on the new one when my electricitys out ;-;

[-] HelloHotel@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

try ffmpeg or handbrake. It converts the video to another format after its downloaded. Also the process uses a lot of CPU time and I assume battery life. I don't know how reasonable that solution is for your situation but try it anyway.
