There's actually a lot more cash in circulation than ever before, and simultaneously, cash is hardly used in consumer transactions. It's thought that most cash minted is used in criminal transactions. The most common note in circulation is the $100 bill.
This is also unfair to say since we increase the population at the same time. I think if we measured cash per person it would be very low.

Man, I found a twenty on the ground at a gas station about a decade ago. The dude there still asks me if I've found any more.
When I was riding my bike as a kid maybe 15 years ago I found like $15 in 5s and almost immediately used it to buy ice cream. Best tasting ice cream I ever had.
I thought it was because the money trees were all chopped down... If you need spare change, I've been burying pennies wherever I could.
