I played Watch Dogs (1) for the first time last year after pre-ordering it back in 2013 on console and coming across a game-breaking bug and never being able to complete it. It's honestly a really fun game that I think gets more hate than it deserves. Obviously the stuff with the graphic downgrades between promo and launch were/are shitty, but the gameplay was fun and the story was pretty entertaining. Plus the spider tank.

Never played the sequel, though.

The sequel has the better story, but Imma be honest, I don't think WD1 was hard to beat there. It had some genuinely memorable moments, but there was some jank bolting over with the changes to Aiden, in my opinion.

WD2 is worth it if you enjoyed 1. It definitely shows some of the later Ghost Recon bones in there, but they work pretty well within the context of the world, and the cast is actually pretty fun. It felt like they took a more relaxed approach from the outset, and it fares better for it.

Loved the first the second not so much, the main character in 2 is played like a nerdy, altruistic hacker, while he's committing mass murder and tearing shit up. The first protagonist made more sense.

Let's not talk about Legion. That game was so forgettable

i thought 2 was much more mechanically rich but this is a dissonance issue with the fun-loving crew that can kill.

luckily you can play the game using non-lethal methods and stealth so it works, but ubisoft wont commit fully.

I think it could have really used that dissonance. My playthrough came to a point where I got fed up of stealth and started using all the violent toys I'd unlocked a long time prior. But nothing happens when you unlock them, there's no commentary when you first get them or use them etc, but it could have been a good story that featured the whole question of do the ends justify the means from both sides. Both in security and in resistance.

Obviously not the game we got, but that game lives rent-free in my head simply due to it not existing.

I feel like if they tried to play it straight and tackle that issue the tone of the entire game would have to be on that page to begin with, or I would be unable to take the corny cast seriously. It's a game light in tone by design

Yeah, you're probably right.
