400+, paid for 0. Won't give them a dime until Sweeney stops with his anti-linux shenanigans, and the "buying exclusivity" thing doesn't make me too happy either

[-] ours@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Same. Thanks for my free copy of Control Sweeney but if I want to buy something it's either GOG or Steam.

~~Not telling you to buy something from them but just know that they are deleting the accounts that spend nothing.~~

I cannot find any info about this. Source?

[-] muhyb@programming.dev 6 points 7 months ago

Weird enough I cannot find it either anymore. It was a Reddit post. Gotta mark my previous comment in strikethrough.

I've been claiming free games since Christmas 2019. And my account hasn't been deleted. Thanks to epic my brokeearse can play some genuinely decent and fun games.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

I deleted Epic. I can't even be assed to play free games on it.

[-] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I would have done the same if it weren't for heroic and legendary, the epic launcher is so awful to use

[-] nieceandtows@programming.dev 22 points 7 months ago

Call me a moron, but haven't even made an account on epic yet. Missed out on all the free games because Steam made 'year of the linux desktop' a reality, and I wanted to appreciate them for that. Sweeny made it an easier choice with his comments and stance on a linux epic client.

They were, at one time, one of the few companies to support Linux. Sad to see them fall so far.

zero fucking purchased games. 100+ in library

I'm something of an EGS customer myself

[-] Vipsu@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

Hoarder would be a more fitting term but yeah one can amass quite a collection of games fairly cheap with Humble Bundles and sorts. Back in the day Humble bundle even had "competitor" or two providing different sets of games.

Haven't bothered with Epic Games launcher myself though got more than enough games on steam and gog that haven't even tried yet.

[-] Telorand@reddthat.com 1 points 7 months ago

I usually download the freebies. Played a few I wouldn't have gotten myself, like Alien Isolation.

[-] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago

100 free games on epic that i ended up buying on a steam sale anyway.

[-] tehWrapper@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Most of the time I will play them like a demo and then buy them on steam when they go in sale if like them.

[-] sgibson5150@slrpnk.net 5 points 7 months ago

I reinstalled the Epic launcher recently when they were giving away Outer Worlds for free. I immediately remembered why I had uninstalled it.

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

I have always wondered if Devs still get a bit of cash from the free games. I hope they do and Epic gets nothing.

[-] dinckelman@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

At the moment, i'm sitting at 268 titles, of which I've paid for a grand total of 2. I deeply regret it too.

Couldn't wait for Satisfactory to release on Steam, and grabbed that. It's just super inconvenient to launch from EGS.

The other was Division 2, which I got on a gigantic discount. I had to contact support on both sides, because they sold me a code that wouldn't activate properly

[-] AnIntenseMoist@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

I'd honestly buy Satisfactory again with how much fun I've had in that game.
