As soon as the "just use site:reddit.com to get around SEO bullshit" became public knowledge it was only a matter of time before this happened.

[-] livus@kbin.social 7 points 7 months ago

Exactly.

One day it will involve fediverse. So enjoy it here for here now, where the only spam we face is the black market prescription drugs spammers on kbin, and people pushing their own news blogs.

Honestly, we should have just stuck with Usenet.

Yeah the marketing rot always follows where the audience is.

Nothing good can remain untainted.

[-] Tag365@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

So when did it become public knowledge? When the Google is broken controversy started?

[-] nick@midwest.social 44 points 7 months ago

Works for me. I haven’t used that shithole since Apollo died.

[-] fartsparkles@sh.itjust.works 16 points 7 months ago

Snap. Moved here full time the day Apollo died and haven’t looked back. Voyager now proudly sits on my home screen where Apollo once sat.

I can't wait for the stories about people jailbreaking these AI accounts because they are probably just using the ChatGPT API.

[-] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 30 points 7 months ago

Also, speaking of manipulating comment sections with posts designed to promote products by mentioning them naturally, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated movie, "Barbie", is now available on Blu-ray and select streaming services.

You are full of shit. “Everyone Poops” half off at your local bookstore.

[-] thefartographer@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago

I'm not sure I get the connection, but it's family night at Applebee's

[-] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

I, for one, can't wait to have some of Applebee's mouthwatering Bar Bees.

So the advertisers are basically admitting now that they peddle direct opposition to an actual useful answer to a Google-able question

Like 90% sure this is a direct response to the fact that people have begun appending reddit to their searches to get answers to questions that aren't just Wikipedia or more advertisements.

Capital poisons everything.

Some people deserve exile from earth.

[-] CptEnder@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Check back in on the site for some niche subs that don't have content here and wow it's like 75% ads now

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Is this chaotic neutral or chaotic bad?

[-] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 7 months ago

it's driven by greed, so chaotic evil

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

And it's also intentionally misleading people.

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Capitalism would best be described as neutral evil at best.

[-] thesmokingman@programming.dev 2 points 7 months ago

Depends on how you use capitalism for alignment. If we view capitalism as necessary for alignment, this is probably lawful neutral if not lawful good. There’s honor in selling the right product and you’re not breaking any rules here. If we view capitalism as unnecessary or even evil, this is much more on the lawful evil side than chaotic. Again, it’s not breaking any rules and it follows a strong code of conduct. It’s hard to view a company that remains in business for any period of time as chaotic because you need a system to systematically take advantage of everything.

The internet used to be a place where I would go in order to get advice on which item to buy, specifically on places like reddit. It is such a shame that so much internet credibility is dying because of bots…
