Maaan. I really liked the raildex characters and world...
But I couldn't get over post-amnesia Touma. You can't just have characters build genuine connections and then erase it for no reason.
I had to look up whether it was just a "bad phase" of the story. But no, apparently it's permanent, and as far as I could tell nothing interesting is done with it.
And having the main character just pretending to know people he's supposed to care about is just... Nauseating. It's such an extreme level of disingenuousness it actually makes me mad. It felt like every time Touma opened his mouth to speak, the author was spitting in the face of the other characters. Characters that I liked.
He should just tell them. They deserve to know that the Touma they knew is effectively dead, and will stay dead. I cared about those characters, it made me furious to see them betrayed.
The idea of having that underpinning the entirety of the remainder of the series, is so far beyond a deal breaker, it's hilarious.
I lost all interest. It was such a pointless amateur writing contrivance it affected how I viewed everything by Kamachi. It ruined the characters I did like. I see art of Misaka and Index and the only part I can appreciate anymore is the technical ability of the artist.
I can't look at anything raildex related without getting worked up about it again. The fact that I can only get so mad because these characters were genuinely appealing to me, just makes me even more mad!

Oh I feel ya on that. The amnesia plot point was really unfortunate. In my mind's eye railgun and index are the main characters of their respective stories. Touma is written like many other men in anime, clueless and easy to overwrite.
I think it's intended to let viewers imagine themselves in place of the character but I find that proposal nauseating. Fortunately, he does eventually make new memories with these people. I just wanted him to be honest, at least he cares about them.
Edit: if you watch just railgun he's much less important to the story, would recommend.

The irony is that pre-amnesia Touma was likeable. A really endearing goof.
Post-amnesia Touma is literally just an asshole. He's bullshitting his way through every word he speaks. That makes him a completely different character.
A really, really punchable one. Whatever relationships he manages to form after that point are hollow and undeserved. Built on a foundation this Touma didn't lay down, and lied about by omission.

Yeah after that I wasn't invested in his character, he's just a gimmick appearance. Everyone else was just better.
It's not just a loss of investment for me, I can't handle how mad his behaviour makes me on behalf of all the characters I did like.
I wouldn't want the new Touma around at all! For me it's like trying to enjoy a movie while some ass keeps kicking my seat. Except it's the fucking author behind the story. It's not enough that the stuff I liked is still there 😭
