The move on Wednesday marks a U-turn in Ukraine’s approach on the matter. Kyiv had long opposed the measure and had repeatedly criticised Moscow for mobilising prisoners to fill its ranks.

Tsvily said he feared the creation of “special units” for mobilised soldiers would lead to abuse against prisoners.

“It’s like in Russia – redemption by blood. … Anyone willing to fight will be put in one unit and commanded like meat,” he said.

That's simply a lie, Tornado ~~batallion~~ (edit: company) were taken out of jail years ago for example, and they were jailed by Ukraine for rapes, among other shit.

Yeah, they were taking rapists, murderers and nazis before, now they also want pickpockets and fraudsters and so on.

Mobilisation would be voluntary and open only to certain categories of prisoners.

Among those not eligible to serve include those found guilty of sexual violence, killing two or more people, serious corruption and former high-ranking officials, Shuliak said.

Only prisoners with under three years left to serve on their sentence may apply, she said. Any prisoners who are mobilised would be granted parole rather than a pardon.

They're giving the option for prisoners to apply to be a part of defending Ukraine. They're not conscripting rapists to cannon fodder battalions or anything like that, ffs.

You did not even read my comment else you would know i'm not talking about new law but about the deerboy lying through his teeth to whitewash the ukronazis, as is his custom since he shown up here.

Also idk if they were taking rapists to be their cannon fodder, though the mere existence of reddit warriors there is a strong pointer they were, but they were confirmed to taking the rapists out of jail as their elites.

It kinda sucks though. If you're looking for moral high ground, doing this out of defence/existence of your nation is better than trying to eliminate someone else's.

All Infantry is cannon fodder to some extent, but so far Ukraine's casualty numbers for their deployed personnel have been a lot better than Russia's.

I hope they can maintain that track record.
