Aren't all fruits technically limited-edition by their very nature?

[-] MeekerThanBeaker@lemmy.world 22 points 6 months ago

Everything is a limited edition. Some things are just more limited than others.

Aren't bananas and grapes technically clones

[-] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago

And apples, naval oranges, corn (especially gmo).

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 45 points 6 months ago

This is normal in Japan.

Perfect-looking fruits and vegetables (and giant tunafish) regularly get sold at premiums in grocery stores or are auctioned off. Sometimes it makes the news.

Yall can buy the good looking fruit. I’ll take my ugly ass pineapples for a discount any day.

Same with my lovers.

But does it taste any different? The article makes no claims other than looks.

[-] kemsat@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

Usually when I see stuff like this on YouTube the people trying it say something along the lines of “it’s good, and it was nice to try it, but it’s not worth the price.”

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

prolly tastes freaking nasty. or it's texture is horrible.

[-] EatATaco@lemm.ee -1 points 6 months ago

Or it tastes really good and has a good texture which is why this luxury person decided to put money into creating and cultivating and then sell it at exorbitant prices. But, nah, let's just assume the worst. Rich people, amirite?

Do they also offer pineapple rental? Not everyone can afford to own one.

It wouldn't be the first time

[-] FanciestPants@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

This is a scam unless it comes with an NFT.

[-] ryan213@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 months ago

I bet it tastes really pineappley.

[-] lagomorphlecture@lemm.ee 5 points 6 months ago

I'm a little bit late to the pineapple party but I wanted to say that I recently saw a 6 oz container of non organic blueberries for over $9 and I thought THAT was outrageous.
