Wild they're announcing a recall already. I mean I didn't like windows 11 but it seemed more or less functional, even though the ads really pissed me off.

keeps all data stored locally, never shared with the cloud or Microsoft

This is probably true, but any meaningful marketing data derived from the local data will almost certainly be sent to Microsoft.

A great many people will hate this, but they'll do it anyway. I guess its the logical conclusion of having your own personal AI.

Which is neither your own nor personal.

How is this at all like having your own AI..

If anything you don't even have your own computer anymore if you allow crap like this

Yeah, I wouldn't call it very personal when you know that Microsoft will be jerking off to all your data

There's a certain logic to this. The more useful a personal AI is, the more it knows about your activities, so as to master helping you do them better. I'm not saying I like this new Microsoft feature, but the underlying logic is not exclusive to them - it will be everywhere else in the world too eventually as AI grows.

Infects, not grows. It's infecting everything right now.

Ai on the computer will change the way we use computers. This function is just one of many that will make it happen. It's going to be awesome.

I know Linux is big on lemmy and I adore Linux, I use it on my home server and laptop. But the way of the world is ai. For 30 years I have been imagining having a computer that will be able to predict what I want and we are well on our way to that exact place. It's prudent to mind potential security weaknesses, but dismissing it so quickly as some people do is just as dumb as it gets.
