wow those meetings sure must be important.

If you're going over something in enough detail, your AI summary can't be trusted to get everything that's important while making the whole thing more concise. If you're just coming out with a couple of decisions after a broader discussion, one person taking notes can email those decisions out with little effort.

If you're tasking an AI with sitting in on a meeting for you and participating, how are you preparing it for the meeting? Adequate prep work for more complex meetings is most of the work you put into them anyway, and if all you need is to pipe up with something easy, that should be an email.

why do people have to be in meetings? thonk

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago

Well we need a reason to keep people in the office for at least 8 hours a day, preferably more, so we have to make up busywork.

I am told it is the most efficient system possible, and gommunism no iphone vuvuzela so it must be true.

the gippity helps you misunderstand what happened in more meetings, just what every real human has always wanted

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 20 points 5 months ago

I just looked at some copilot meeting transcripts from my office and they're fucking unintelligible lol

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago

it doesn't try to extract bullet points or action items, or even clean up the um ah vagaries of human speech, it's just a straight (and not very accurate), nearly unpunctuated transcription. utterly useless

So it's the thing Zoom has been able to do for years but worse lol

during the WFH heyday of covid, i virtually attended a few meetings where an attendee was attempting to attend more than one meeting simultaneously. "i have double booked meetings, apologies" and then you watch them just sort of be there and occaisionally unmute themselves in the wrong meeting and generate weird crosstalk.

they were exactly the kind of self-important "VIP" asshole that, under normal operational circumstances, contributes nothing but makes sure to take full credit for "team" work, and gets off on the idea that their over commitment is some sign of elevated value.

of course what they are really doing by attending two meetings virtually is disrupting two meetings and acting as a net negative impact on both conversations while demonstrating their gratuitousness to two projects overall. it is also, literally the only time i've ever seen a meeting host eject an attendee lmao.

Taking your job this deeply unseriouly to outsource attention to a robot really rubs me the wrong way. Fuck I wish we had some kind of system that prioritized good human work and not bullshit optimization of bullshit jobs where triple booking meetings is even considered, let alone encouraged

jesus-christ They aren't even trying to sugar coat it anymore. Like, when they started in with cellphones and laptops they at least promoted it with pictures of working on the beach and whatnot. Now they're straight up telling you, "We are tracking everything you ever do to eliminate your excuse to ever miss a meeting. You're ~~welcome~~ mandatorily accepting this!"

"Suppose they gave a meeting and nobody came"... i guess workers continue to work. Sounds like a cure to "death by meeting". Somehow you have convinced me this could turn into a good thing! Something to pacify management.

Productivity tech only helps your boss. It sucks so much everything in tech is doing nothing but make us less human and make more money for fucking vampire losers at the top.
