There’s a version of this in China called Longevity Noodles: https://msshiandmrhe.com/longevity-noodles/

The idea is to make one very long noodle to represent a wish for a very long life.

I recently found out about Yard Long Beans... a green bean 3 feet long? Blew my mind, or whatever was left of it.

Huh, so I will go to the gigantic Chinese grocery store near my house and inquire about this. Long noodle : Propserity

the canned ones? Or your mom made a weird casserole? (Hot Dish sorry, if you're in Minnesota). It's so different. I haven;' tried the 3 foot long beans yet, but regular green bean cooked fresh - it';s really diferent! The canned ones are mushy and weird. They're like, okays! But REAL green bean is pretty good. They can be toothy. They can be chewy. They can be.... anything you want.

I am against any kind of green bean that is green bean flavored.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

boil them longer! tastes like water and bean fiber, which tastes like uh.... anti-bean. Negates all bean.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I've heard people make similar claims about other food I hate. Like tofu. There will still be essence of green bean.

I could do that, or I could not buy them in the first place. I think that might be the better option for me.

You know what is best, in your heart. I suggest to avoid Noodle.

Despite the common name of "yardlong", the pods are actually only about half a yard long, so the subspecies name sesquipedalis (one-and-a-half-foot-long; 1.5 feet (0.50 yd)) is a more accurate approximation.

The singular form of spaghetti is called a spaghetto

[-] boeman@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Also what you call the slums near Little Italy.

The face I made when reading this was one of disgust, but honestly I have no reason for that other then knowing it just one long noodle which somehow makes me uncomfortable. Honestly, don't know why.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

It’s simply wrong, and we all know it.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

That was what I've wanted all spaghetti to be ever since I saw it in cartoons as a kid. And yet I'm always disappointed.

sluuuuuuuuurp

This is a clickbait YouTube video waiting to happen. And now I really want to see it to find out all the logistical issues they'd have to go through to make, cook, and eat a single noodle long enough to reasonably be considered a single plate full of spaghetti.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I thought maybe you could take a really long noodle and feed it into water, but that would result in one end being overcooked and one end super al-dente. So, I guess, passing the noodle through the water really slowly would work. I'd put it in, then grab the end with kitchen tweezers (you have those, right?) and then move it really slowly through the boiling water.

I’m just thinking like the cheap ramen packs but it’s just 1 nood all folded on itself.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I am not thinking it may be… it might be just one noodle (?)

[-] PwnTra1n@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I’m sure they are many noodles in those but I don’t know that I’ve ever pulled the noodles out for science.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

It’s a bunch of noodles, trust me.

[-] Darc@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Wait, your spaghetti has more than one noodle?

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Several noodle

[-] wolfahmader@lemmy.fmhy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

that’s what cartoons made me think, reality is often disappointing…

[-] Xepher@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I'd like to see the packaging this noodle would come in

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

they can make the noodle bendy at the factory

[-] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 years ago

Noodle in the singular vs. plural is always sad, unless it's a pool noodle. Then it can be fun.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
