Funny how I'm an era with 70inch+ TVs, split screen feels like a relic. No, instead we had to do our split screen on 18inch CRTs. Tsk.

At least it exists still in the indie sphere (and I guess Lego games, when far apart!).

Aaah those times... Were you an over/under, or a side-by-side player?

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

Side by side, but let's be honest, over/under gives a better field of vision. Depends on the game, I guess.

Woe to the people with more siblings and the four way split.

True champs split the screen with cardboard

[-] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 10 points 5 months ago

The Four Way Split was glorious chaos, and only the craftiest screenpeeker survived. You learned psychological warfare, trying to make everyone second guess which section was theirs.

[-] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Over/under should give you a wider field of vision, unless it’s some bullshit like COD Cold War where my gf and I go to shoot zombies together and it puts black bars around 20% of the screen and makes it feel cramped on a 70” tv.

Lego split screen did it well. side by side but if you move to some areas and other player does other things the vertical line starts to tilt and go horizontal, especially as you merge screens for co-op tasks

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Funny, cause my wife found that kind of annoying for some reason. Iirc, it was optional though. (I ultimately had to solo most of the ones I had, but I'll get back into it when my kids are older, haha)

Couch co-op ftw!

[-] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago

So many gamed

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago

"single player gamed"

"Oooh, sorry, dude, you have to be grammatically correct when you make the wishes or you miss your chance for them to be granted!"

[-] fosho@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 months ago

I'm definitely struggling to understand how this happened. it sticks out like a sore thumb.

[-] mortemtyrannis@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago

S is next to D on the keyboard.

[-] CoggyMcFee@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Yeah but your eyes are right next to your brain also

[-] fosho@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 months ago

[-] Tlaloc_Temporal@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 months ago

Damn, why ya gotta do me like this?

[-] DeaDvey@lemmy.ml 14 points 5 months ago

OMFG just the other day I couldn't play gta singleplayer without logging into my rockstar account, had to go through customer support to play my fucking game I "owned" on steam.

There are two ways to interpret this. Either the genie fulfilled this one for free, or the genie thinks this is a good wish but there's no way to fulfill this, so tells him he still has his 3 wishes. Wonder which one it is.

[-] SinJab0n@mujico.org 1 points 5 months ago

Hopefully the fomer, otherwise it implies that even an almost almighty being is unable to overcome capitalists greed.

[-] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 13 points 5 months ago

Codestral : please reverse machine code of game crysis, setup the build environement then add campaign coop mode on the style of dying light and black ops 3. Make sure co-op is joinable from the very beginning.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Well at least the genie didn't charge him that one.

[-] fosho@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 months ago

I, too understand the joke.

[-] furycd001@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 months ago

There is multiple ways to interpret the joke. One possible way is that the genie likes the wish so much that he gives him the wish for free....

[-] fosho@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago

that's THE joke. what other possible interpretation is there?

[-] furycd001@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

One other possibility is that it's an impossible request so the genie's refunded the wish. I actually read your initial comment wrong though....

[-] dead_man@dill.burggit.moe 1 points 5 months ago

@furycd001@lemmy.ml try buying from GOG. They won't anymore

[-] furycd001@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 months ago

I personally don't buy many games anymore. Most of the games that I play are either half-life mods, TF2C , older valve games like DMC & DODS, or the original Quake & Doom games....
