It's coffee that's been brewed then canned in a soda can. Your whole bean and pre-ground coffee that comes in a bag is fine.

Pre-ground coffee was commonly sold in metal cans that required a can opener.

[-] DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

True, but you're not going to pop the top on one of those then start sipping.

[-] Arbiter@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

Maybe you won’t.

Well, there is the pic of dry ground coffee as well as the text that mentions ounces instead of fluid ounces.

It's common for blogs and some news outlets to include an image with each article. It may or may not be relevant.

I had searched for a couple of the roasters and they either de-listed the products or pulled the page from their website.

Anyway the FDA recall talks about canning low acid foods, and how the manufacturer hadn't filed the proper paperwork on their process.

Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins is the most racist-sounding thing I’ve ever heard that isn’t actually racist.

A classic. Why didn’t I remember that?

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 21 points 5 months ago

Would love to see the prices of all these since they are all essentially the same product.

[-] DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Maybe in the sense that Coke and Pepsi are the same product. From reading their website it looks like they partner with different roasters to make canned cold brew.

Are these all local roasters? I don't recognize any of them.

Edit: How silly of me. I should have guessed that the 100+ "brands" were all the same exact product made by one company.

Seems midwest-y. I only recognize 2, but there is a St. Louis one and Snapchill is based out of Green Bay WI

[-] pedestrian@links.hackliberty.org 3 points 5 months ago

No, I have a subscription to Brandywine - they're based out of Wilmington, Delaware.

It looks like what happened is that the roasters listed didn't inform the FDA properly of their roasting processes, which led the FDA to assume that the coffee may be a vector that is conducive to botulism.

No cases were reported because of this, but the recall is out of an abundance of safety.

[-] PythagreousTitties@lemm.ee 3 points 5 months ago

I completely skipped over Snapchill somehow, even though that's in the beginning of the article and responsible for all of it lol.

Funny aside, I have not had coffee today!

[-] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

There’s contract bottlers that do that for regional breweries and soda companies too. Probably the same with coffee products.

[-] PythagreousTitties@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I know. Most store brands are all the same products. Sometimes my mind drifts into a better world though. One with hope for a brighter future.

[-] lemmyman@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Seems to me like a white label system. Like all the bullshit copypasta Amazon brands, or home appliances like dehumidifiers.

[-] PythagreousTitties@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago

That's exactly what it is. This one company is just the white lable producer for regional coffees.

[-] SpeedLimit55@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Yeah at least one is a local coffee chain in my city. They used to be good then opened more stores with lower quality product and staff/ union issues. Not surprised their canned coffee is basically the same as a bunch of others.

[-] lemmyman@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

Mocha Joe! I fucking knew it! Cold coffee and cakey scones!

[-] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

He's got the beans

[-] NoSpiritAnimal@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

NOT MY GAY AWAKENING COFFEE BY DRAG BEAN! NOOOOOOO!

This article is actually wild—did they even list a single one of the products being recalled in the actual article?

I see links and the conglomerate company name, but zero of the actual products without clicking through to a PDF or something
