July 8, 2024 -- MMMMFF

  • Brush: Grizzly Bay Shire 26mm V18 Fanchurian
  • Blade Holder: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing
  • Blade: Personna Gem PTFE (4)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Alive - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner
  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth - Alive - Splash

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I haven't done a MMMMFF shave in a while. Alive is a great scent for the hot and humid weather we have here in summer, and the Flying Wing was a joy to use, as always.

Mammoth Micro Matic Monday Flying Formation?

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 2 months ago

IIRC, it's Mammoth Monday Micromatic Flight Formation.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 2 months ago

Nice MMMMFF! I haven't done one of those in forever.

Yeah bringing back the oldies. A very satisfying shave.

Monday, July 8, 2024: Les lundis de l'entropie

This is the test-shave for the Thiers-Issard. I might be getting somewhere with this honing business.

Have a good night!

Are we the kind or outlier shave forum where the majority of members owns and likes Boltzmann?

Wild.

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts w/Maggard SHD 30mm Fan
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (6)
  • Lather: Viking Shaving Soap - Norway - Soap
  • Post Shave: Brut - Splash On

I don't use this soap enough to be really proficient with it, and I've had some pretty disappointing lathers in the past -- this time, though, I did good! I guess it's just one of those soaps that takes a relatively hefty amount of loading, and not much water. Lots of water just breaks it, I guess.

Brut was really nice, and it's the next morning and I can still smell it.

Does that brush feel gigantic? I have a 30 mm silver tip from Maggard and it feels huge. I imagine the denser SHD is a monster.

It feels great. It's big, but not cumbersome. It was sold as a 28mm, but measures 30, and is larger than the other 28mm SHD that I have. I prefer this one to the 28mm, as it feels a tad softer. They're both great, though.

I had to use a rotary tool (Dremel™ brand 🤣) to enbiggen the hole in the handle in order to get this knot in. It's in a "reject" Dogwood from when Phteven used to sell them for cheap in IRC. Now he sells them auction style. I do wish it was in a larger handle to make it easier to hold, but I'm happy with it overall.

Bræmona

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BADGER (Silvertip)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 72-V (13/16", quarter hollow or near wedge, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Braeburn
  • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts – Pomona
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors – Sundrunk

Wedges aren't my preferred grind, but I am thoroughly fascinated by how different a heavy wedge and a full hollow feel despite having the same outline and bevel angle. (I have the 72 in full hollow and in wedge). The only difference is mass and stiffness.

Silky smooth shave with the cleaver and Omnibus. Braeburn is still in consideration for AA.

Look what I found today in my mailbox:

Wedges aren’t my preferred grind

Not mine either.

Silky smooth shave with the cleaver

A testament to your ability to adapt and adjust your technique.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 2 months ago

Testament to omnibus, too! Not my favourite base, but definitely a great performer!

But to your point, the first straight razor I really liked was a W&B wedge, so there is a good basis of wedge muscle memory hiding behind my full hollow preference.
