I don't get it, what's the point in having removable back, screws, screwdrivers if you cannot remove and replace the parts.

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 66 points 4 months ago

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I've been planning on getting a fairphone next, and didn't know they had a competitor, and then after watching the review realized they didn't have a competitor.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 26 points 4 months ago

goes to show how it only needs to look rugged and repairable

[-] Aux@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

So you can change the colour of your phone.

[-] adam_y@lemmy.world 91 points 4 months ago

features with a high degree of customizability - you can swap out the back cover, and also attach things like a lanyard.

Ooooh, a lanyard strap... That's the sort of right to repair we've all been after.

It's so silly. The back is removable with just a couple of standard screws. But the battery isn't replaceable.

[-] wizzor@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 months ago

I have only ever had phones go bad on me due to broken screen, broken battery or lack of software updates. They aldo clearly know this.

Nothing phone is such a fucking joke there are 0 replacement parts available. I broke my camera a few weeks after I got my nothing phone 2 and your only option is to ship the phone to the UK. The advertise as consumer friendly but that couldn't be further from the truth.

[-] remer@lemmy.world 32 points 4 months ago

They’re consumer friendly…. They’re all smiles when you buy the phone….

[-] HoustonHenry@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

A little too friendly, wouldencha say, Scoob?

[-] Lukario@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Wdym? Do they not offer the parts online or something?

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 38 points 4 months ago

I was kinda hoping a modular phone would have a headphone jack module of some sort.

Non-removable battery and lanyard strap is enough I guess...

Or wireless charging, bit embarrassing in the good year of our lord 2024

Yeah this surprised me. Is NFC payment not common in India?

[-] MenacingPerson@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago

Nah, india has UPI which uses QR codes.

[-] StarlightDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 4 months ago

I remember almost a decade ago, the Oneplus 2 not having it was a major downside. I can't believe we are still doing this song and dance.

I guess it's main target is India where there is almost no need for nfc. Everything is paid through qr code here.

Does this phone have an SD card and headphone jack?

If not then I'm not buying it.

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

we should be asking for nvme at this point

I don't understand the point of this phone. Why are idiots flocking to it?

[-] Evotech@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago
[-] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 4 months ago

There's no shortage of cheap devices from other well known brands though?

[-] XTL@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago

I haven't seen any flocking. And idiots certainly still have their regular brands.

[-] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 months ago

I mean, 100k phones is quite a few phones...

[-] gheesh@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

If people are buying this instead of other repair-oriented brands like Fairphone, then they're not concerned about repairability but price.

[-] philpo@feddit.de 9 points 4 months ago

I'd love to buy a Fairphone. But sadly it is behind in so many features, that I simply can't.

-no water proof (sadly a requirement in my profession)

-no wireless charging (why? just why? There is no good reason for them to not include that, especially as it is finally adopted by a lot of spaces, e.g. in airline seats, etc.)

  • mediocre camera

I counted the days towards Fairphone releasing the featureset of the Fairphone 5 and was so disappointed.

I am up for other recommendations, though. The first person to name google will be downvoted, though. I literally wrote my lawyer yesterday as they are treating service cases in a illegal manner.

Fairphone isn't available in many parts of the world. CMF's sales are boosted a lot by it's presence in India where Fairphone is not an option.

[-] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

They could be concerned about both.

[-] Sp00kyB00k@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

It is the phone everyone deserves but should not be the one you want. It only creates more waste without being reparable.

[-] legocorp@reddthat.com 4 points 4 months ago

In my opinion this an amazing looking phone that I could use without a case, if needed just buy a new back and stick it to the phone. For me the only problem is the lack of NFC (no Google pay). Strange move by Nothing to not include it.
