It is the same thing which happened to ajax, monaco, etc when they had their impressive seasons. Nothing one can do to prevent it in the current footballing environment where the biggest clubs have orders of magnitude more spending power.
Funny considering Girona is a CFG product.
Yeah the irony is palpable
I believe it's quite obvious that Girona can't operate at the same kind of level that Man City does, even if they belong to the same state fund. Market just opened up, I wouldn't be surprised if they placed some interesting transfers aimed at generating income for the team while consolidating the identity of the squad. Plus, Savio leaving for Man City is quite a telling sign of this behaviour, imho.
Oh no way can Girona be on the City level, they will be forced to be a step below. But a step below is a high level! Having a player that would get into the city lineup, in fact 2 if you count Yan Couto as well is a European level, not just top flight.
Girona have already got Krejci, being 25 he likely won't be sold for profit nor move to city. The same goes for Abel Ruiz.
I think girona could have a European project here, if not a UCL team consistently atleast the uecl. Top 7 in Spain ain't that tough.
As for Savio, he was owned by Troyes. Another cfg club but one that is an absolute failure of a project. Was on loan at Girona.
