EDIT: From @Zeus@lemm.ee's comment:

[the source] says "for the magazine 'populjarnaja mechanika'", and credits dmitri choybolsan (Дмитрий Чойболсан). it's not on the linked portfolio page, but it kind of matches his style(-ish) and it was used for the cover of 2008/№ 11:\

see cover of 2008/№ 11

Original post:

I found one version of the image with "© Art. Lebedev Studio", but Wikipedia says:

Art. Lebedev Studio is a design firm in Russia, founded in 1995 by Artemy Lebedev.

~~So I don't think they are the original source, unless this is a modern retro-futuristic design.~~

Would Be so unfortunate to have a pre 2020s art style that looks so much like AI.

yeah i honestly thought it was at first; especially with an uncredited artist

i think they are the original source, after a bit of a skim of 00s russian magazines

that page says "for the magazine 'populjarnaja mechanika'", and credits dmitri choybolsan (Дмитрий Чойболсан). it's not on the linked portfolio page, but it kind of matches his style(-ish) and it was used for the cover of 2008/№ 11:

now i can't find anywhere to read it to see cover credits, but i'm inclined to believe it

(are you just trying to see what you can get away with credit-wise, by the way?)

Thanks, I edited the post with this info!

(are you just trying to see what you can get away with credit-wise, by the way?)

Not at all. I clicked on the Дмитрий Чойболсан link and I thought it was the user who uploaded the photo. I should have gone a bit further.

i mean, i could be jumping the gun here. you may well be right. it's not listed on his page (although he seems to have at least two, so maybe there's more). but i thought that as they claim it was for that magazine and it appeared on said magazine, it could be true

It is not always possible (or worthwhile) to be sure about the sources. IMHO the best way is to just add all the info you find so that others can investigate further if they want to.
