Trump probably is scared of Harris. The worse his personal insults get, the worse he is scared.

As for the debates, if she keeps going up in the polls he will have no choice but to debate.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago

But wait, if she is leading the polls she doesn't have to debate, right? That's what the the man said....

[-] finley@lemm.ee 28 points 1 month ago

As with everything, that only applies to him, of course.

[-] revelrous@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 month ago

He also can't keep cool when it's somebody like a woman or minority 'challenging' him and his team knows this does not make him more palatable to independents.

He'll hold off and try and hide behind attack ads for as long as possible. Hoping something sticks with the public that he can focus on.

[-] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 95 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Why is he being so weird about it?

[-] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago

Because he's a creep and knows he can't handle a strong woman pushing back on his weird bullshit.

I'd vote for SpongeBob before Trump, and SpongeBob is literally yellow-bellied and spineless. Except that one time.

[-] Lightor@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm against public executions but if they ever debate, I'd watch that one.

[-] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 45 points 1 month ago

You know, as much as they're playing this up, I really hope the debate goes well for Harris. If it goes kind of okay for Trump, it's going to let a lot of steam out of the hype train. I'm mostly sure Harris is going to nuke him from orbit, but you never really know until your guy gets up on stage and finally beats medicare.

[-] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 32 points 1 month ago

She should have good experience from her time as a prosecutor, but then again Trump has some sort of special combination of complete lack of respect and loud voice that seems to let him bulldoze people in conversation. I really hope she pushes back and doesn't let him get away with his usual bullshit, but examples of him actually being put in his place are rare.

I really hope the moderators are good, too, but I'm not optimistic about that. Which might also play a role.

VP Harris needs to come out guns blazing. Like just call him old in her first answer. Then weird in the second answer. By the time she calls him fat, he should be apoplectic.

[-] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 15 points 1 month ago

I know there's this narrative about "Trump can't handle strong women", like these folks forgot about 2016. Hillary is a strong woman. I don't align with her much, I wasn't jazzed to vote for her in 16, but I'll not pretend that she isn't and wasn't a strong woman. Being a strong woman didn't save Hillary, and it won't automatically give Kamala the upper hand. Kamala needs to meet Trump in the shit fight and kick him in the diaper.

[-] elbarto777@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Yup. Unfortunately, what sank Hillary was the fact that she was portrayed as unlikable. It worked wonder, as we know.

She had a commanding voice and the demeanor. But unfortunately 2016 was very different from 2024, and she tried to "play by the rules" when the other guy was a piece of shit from the get go. If she knew what we know today, the debates would be very different. I could see Hillary using a very condescending tone on Trump ("Oh, Donald, stop with your weird attacks"), and maybe it could have worked.

[-] InternetUser2012@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago

She's not going to let him walk over her. She's going to make him look like a bitch. We all know all that matters to cult45 is Dementia Don looks strong. His base will flip shit when he looks weak and she fucks him up. Can you imagine? Fanta Menace getting owned by a female that isn't white? Which is exactly why there is zero chance he debates her, unless she talks enough shit that he agrees because he's pissed off. Then that's the best outcome for her because he'll look like a little baby that needs a diaper change. How funny would it be if they did debate and he goes on one of his incoherent rants and she says something like "oh, poor baby, do you need a fresh diaper?"

[-] elbarto777@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

"Donald, I'm speaking." Like a little kid.

This would be delicious!

[-] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 34 points 1 month ago

Probably doesn’t want to answer questions about 13 year old Katie Johnson on Epstein island 🏝️

[-] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

I wish that he had to answer for this publicly

[-] numlok@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

“I mean right now I say, why should I do a debate?” he said. “I’m leading in the polls, and everybody knows her, everybody knows me.”.

You were leading in the polls and everybody knew Biden as well when you agreed to it, so why the flip-flop, now? Ahem, chicken

[-] stevedidwhat_infosec@infosec.pub 14 points 1 month ago

Hmm… she’s using misogynistic logic and using it against him.

She’s calling his manhood in to question here, hoping to provoke disruption in the base so they would also question his “man-hood”

A lot that success is going to depend on the userbase demographics, although they probably have those figures better than I do.

Either way, I agree that they need to debate. Cannot stand Trump, just wondering about the efficacy of this approach by Harris

[-] Okokimup@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago

The phrase isn't necessarily misogynistic, if you read it as acting like a grown man instead of a boy. Of course, if he reads it as an insult to his masculinity, and it provokes him to debate, I'm OK with it.

[-] stevedidwhat_infosec@infosec.pub 7 points 1 month ago

Ohhh that’s a good point

[-] Beaver@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago

Perfect response. Trump is a boy.

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Trump literally anytime someone asks him about debating Kamala

Demented don is a *weird little* coward, people are saying it. Everyone is saying it, the best people think trump has nothing but fear in his heart.

Fixed, my mistake

Yeah, will his body survive 5 grams of pure cocaine for the debate?
