Three weeks into her presidential run was the first time the Biden campaign’s pollsters — now hers — held a deep-dive call with Kamala Harris’ inner circle to discuss what she’s been saying on the stump.

Over the line came a lot of praise, but also some suggested tweaks. First, said veteran Democratic numbers man Geoff Garin, summarizing their analysis, stop saying, “We’re not going back.” It wasn’t focused enough on the future, he argued. Second, lay off all the “weird” talk — too negative.

Yes, stop using the two approaches that has been most effective. Absolute genius. I can't for the life of me see why the Dems have a reputation of shooting themselves in the foot.

EDIT: Thankfully Kamala trusted her instincts and has had the good sense to ignore said advice so far

Why does anyone from the 2016 campaign still have a job?

Edit: Also, OP should not have cut out the next lines in the article, saying Harris' advisors declined to take his advice, and Harris reaffirmed that when she was briefed on the call.

I was going to say. Before I even saw who that quote was from, I thought, "boy, this sure sounds like a quote from a Clinton Strategist"

Lo and behold...

More antiquated third-way bullshit.

I also heard the same fucking shit from David Brooks on the PBS panel yesterday. That guy needs to get his head out of his ass, for he's still catching up as to the how and why Trump hijacked his own party and why his milquetoast both sideism led to Trump in the first place. I really wish PBS would find a better pundit.

I was just commenting on the inanity of the advice and how divorced from reality it is. I assume people read the linked article and not just the OP text box.

There are very few people in the world that are more worthless than Democratic political consultants.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

What about Libertarian political consultants?

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 13 points 2 months ago

Of the two, I think the Democratic consultants do more damage.

weird is too negative?

Look around you man. They're fascists. Don't listen to this fucking guy.

[-] winterayars@sh.itjust.works 22 points 2 months ago

Even aside from being fascists they're just fucking weird. Going around with cum jars with JD Vance's name on it? What the hell?

They've always been like this, the Democrats (and media) have just been ignoring it because it would be "impolite" to point out. It's so nice to hear that changing, even a little bit.

What we need is more campaigning with this energy. That's what real negative looks like!

"Can we not talk about hope? That message is so 2008"

“This is her clear voice. When she says, ‘I will sign this into law,’ those are words she has never been able to be speak before,” said her deputy chief of staff, Erin Wilson, who for the last two years helped manage many of Harris’ political relationships.
