The federal labor board employees should strike.

[-] Perhapsjustsniffit@lemmy.ca 20 points 8 months ago

Frankly...everyone should strike.

that and/or vote during the elections

[-] ProgrammingSocks@pawb.social 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Do both. Voting is the BARE MINIMUM every citizen should be doing.

[-] Nogami@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

I will be voting the liberals out.

I will not be voting conservative because I’m not stupid, though I can still be an asshole.

What would happen if they chose to strike anyways? It's not like the labour board can just... replace everybody in any meaningful timeframe

If labour in Canada toughens up like they did during the CUPE strike, they'll fucking win.

Why even have a union if you're just gonna fold like soggy tortillas?

[-] nik282000@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 months ago

When the feds nuke your union's power what are you gonna do?

Stand up to the fed and make them follow through, I guess. Optics wouldn't be great for the incumbent government.

[-] ArmokGoB@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago

Tell them to kick rocks and strike anyways.

Why is it that Canada always copies us? First the US govt puts down a rail strike, then Canada does it!

The difference being that Biden, after ending the strike, actually worked through the federal agencies to get the strikers the deal they'd been looking for (not to mention directing the NLRB to come down so hard on union busting that Amazon, Starbucks and a few others are trying to sue the agency out of existence).

What's happening in Canada is actually worse, crazy as that sounds.

Honestly, I'd love to see the rail workers take a cue from CUPE and just strike anyway.
