There's a specific comment I'm trying to reply to in the lemmy.world/c/games community, agreeing with how much I love a game they mentioned. But after drafting the message, on mobile it just acts like I haven't pressed the button. On desktop, there's and endless loading circle.

I tried posting the comment before bed, and again this morning, same issue.

I was able to make a top-level comment in another post.

I did post something controversial so maybe they blocked me (although it doesn't look like they commented on my controversial post). But I don't even know if that limits replies.

The only other thing I can think of is they're a kbin.social user.

Does any of this explain why I can't reply? If they did block me, would I expect to see some sort of error message? Or should I expect the endless loading circle?

It could also just be a case of server load issues. Lemmy doesn't handle errors properly yet, and whether that's the same in your app varies.

Some communities also require a language setting, that some apps don't provide. Jerboa, for example, doesn't set a language, and has no way to set one by default, which means that you are unable to post comments in communities like !technology@lemmy.world , which do require that language setting.

If you try and post there using Jerboa, it will spin once and then reset as though you hadn't posted at all (due to it not handling errors properly). Some other apps, like wefwef, do a little better, by asking you to set a language, although that may also not be possible depending on the app.

The language setting appears to be it! I opened the post in chrome and selected English, and it worked!

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

EDIT: SOLVED - Another poster listed the solution. There is a dialogue box below the text area listing "Select Language". Once I selected "English" my post is posted.

I'm experiencing something similar. Here's my data:

  • Replying to a post in this thread
  • When I put in my text and hit "Reply" the "Reply" button displays a rotating partially open circle graphic, but never posts.
  • The edit/preview buttons still work, but "reply" keeps spinning.
  • Refreshing the page show the reply didn't post.
  • I came back about 12 hours later and attempted to put the same text as a reply. No success. Still spinning circle on "reply" button.
  • Prior attempts were on Firefox. Instead I opened Chrome and signed in (using incognito) and attempted to post the reply to the same comment. Exact same failure mode in from firefox. Spinning circle on "reply button"
  • I attempted a new text post on the same topic. That was successful.
  • I attempted a reply to my new post. That was successful.
  • I attempted my prior text reply on as a new reply on my new post. That was successful.

So something about the actual user I was replying to will not let me post a reply to that user.

Isn't there a bug in the new version of Lemmy that messes up federation with Kbin right now?

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.
