Probably the guy using some weird lemmy client that’s in alpha that triggered a swipe gesture without the user noticing it.

I have fat fingers, okay? Sometimes I notice I’ve voted on something before it’s even visible on my screen

sigh I thought we'd learnt this by now.

Repeat after me:

Upvoting a post is a signal that the post is good content, not that you endorse the content

Downvoting a post is a signal that the post is abusive, spammy, trolling, or otherwise bad, not that you personally disapprove

The purpose of a system is what it does.

While you're correct, you gotsta know that's now how people use it.

As far as changing how users use up/downvotes, I can see two methods. The expedient method is admin banning “abusers,” and that would cause a monumental shitshow. Forcing the issue is just going to kill an instance. Admin posts and continuous calls to action, on the other hand, would elicit ironic downvoters but has a chance of gradually shifting attitudes. Honestly doesn't seem worth the grief either way.

On lemmy.blahaj.zone, down votes are just disabled lol

I don't dislike political content because I don't agree with it, but because it all feels like a circle-jerk

Through selection bias the fediverse is already composed of a very particular demographic, and patting each other on the back for our similar views feels like a waste of energy

My motive for moving to the fediverse was to remove the centralized control, which it does well, but the lack of diversity hurts the range of stimulating content
