If memory serves, the assassination was September 9th, 2001, by people posing as a news interview team with explosives hidden in the camera. If I recall correctly, the assassins were Al Qaeda, which was heavily intermingled with the Taliban, but was its own entity.

It looks like the assassins were Al-Qaeda, but were significantly aided by and coordinated with the Taliban in the assassination. Gonna keep the title, I think, to emphasize their role in the killing, but definitely an interesting addition!

My comment was an "oh neat" made as a user, not a mod note!

I find the relationship between groups like AQ and Taliban to be fascinating and often glossed over.
