What the title says.

I remember these were everywhere back in the mid 2010's. I was super into the industrialcraft and buildcraft stuff, but a lot of the ones I was really into at the time ended up abandoned and eventually I just moved on to other games.

I'm wondering of there are any still around that are actively updated?

I heard there was one out there somewhere that had a couple of the industrial/automation mods mixed with some world gen stuff and a mod that turned it into a city/colony builder (not Millenaire), but this was just a thing I heard so I'm well aware it's little more than wishful thinking.

Any info would be appreciated, thank for reading!

hey I know this is offtopic but have you migrated your mojang account to a Microsoft account? if you didn't yet, please do so now otherwise your account will be deleted soon, like very very soon, September 19th kind of soon

I know, it sucks, we all hate it but since you mentioned 10 years ago I figured I'd give you and anyone else reading this a reminder

Yeah, did a couple years back. Had to re-buy it because I was like 11 or something when minecraft blew up and i initially got it and had no chance of recovering all the info I needed.

I owned Minecraft Java and Bedrock. I migrated the Java to a new account and now have two copies of each.

For automation I can recommend the pack "Create: Above and beyond" as it teaches you the best tech mod aviable for modern versions. There is a colony builder mod called MineColonies that you can just add to any recent modpack.

I second Create: Above and Beyond!! I’ve been playing it with a friend, it’s got a fun progression with plenty of processing. Early game is rough— I recommend exploring natural generated structures for iron and stuff before really diving into the automation.

Note that it’s still a fairly “kitchen sink” modpack. The magic mods feel especially slapped on there. It also has computercraft and tinker’s construct, which aren’t really integrated with the main progression. If you’re looking for a consistent style with less complexity to start, it might be worth playing Create 1.20.1 on its own or with a few “vanilla+” mods. Create has a “ponder” feature that can teach you how to use basically every part of the mod.

Yeah, modded Minecraft is still a big deal. You can join us over at !moddedminecraft@sopuli.xyz if you want. The mod Create is a big deal right now, and rightfully so. It may well be the greatest of all time, as far as Minecraft mods go.

Here's a whole bunch of modpack on Curseforge. There's some more on FeedTheBeast, Modrinth and ATLauncher (I think). The scene is alive and well, although many of the old mods (like buildcraft and industrial craft) have long been replaced by newer mods.

Your best bet on jumping back in is a quest-based pack on a fairly recent version of the game. The last one I played was FTBSkies, which was pretty cool and included questlines for all major mods to guide you.

A good one is vault hunters. Where it adds a rogue-like into the main gameplay loop of Minecraft, its a lot of fun.

Vault hunters is a blast, it's almost a completely different game set inside Minecraft. I got playing it when they updated the early game and only just put it down for a bit to play baulders gate.
I especially like making farms for a materials that the mod asks for, even if it's not necessary yet. Just infinite amounts of nearly everything one could want.

massive props to VH, it's an awesome modpack, though getting started can be brutal depending on how lucky you are with your seed.

[-] flak@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

It’s not a pack with very many mods similar to IndustrialCraft or BuildCraft (which I adored) but I do enjoy how it gates the progression and my girlfriend and I are addicted to running the vaults in Vault Hunters (Third edition specifically) https://vaulthunters.gg/

OT: what happened to all those beautiful mods? Are they still there? I remember IndustrialCraft, Build raft, there was a mod that introduced bees (?) And another one called Logistic Pipes. Damn I was completely in love with those logistic Pipes

[-] Adramis@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

IndustrialCraft still exists: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/ic2-classic

BuildCraft never moved forward past the block ID change in 1.12, but it's still updated, IIRC.

Forestry hasn't been updated in a long time, but with the addition of bees in vanilla there's new bee mods to play with: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/productivebees

Logistic Pipes also didn't make it past the block ID change in 1.12, but there are a variety of new storage mods like xNet, Integrated Dynamics, Applied Energistics 2, etc.

My personal opinion is that minecraft modding is a lot quieter than it used to be because Microsoft has been playing down the Java version (the moddable version) and playing up the version you have to pay for addons / mods (Bedrock). But there's probably a lot of things contributing - aging demographic of the Java version, the fact that the mod API never happened and never will, disillusionment with M$, etc.

I recommend The Decursio Project if youre looking for an in depth industrial modpack (it does require magic, if thats a deal breaker). it has minecolonies too. Im running a private server on it right now and its the best mod pack ive ever played, though i did disable the "ages" mechanic and im not doing the quests, just using them as a reference.
