This is probably a stupid question but don't understand it because it keeps happening more now than ever especially since Diddy. If I take my girlfriend to a restaurant she does not want to go to across state lines is that sex trafficking? Since we will probably have sex later?

Sex trafficking is basically when you break immigration laws and/or forcibly transport people against their will, or in some kind of unescapable debt/slavery type of arrangement, where you yourself know that the people you are illegally moving are going to be forced into sex work, often for little to no pay, often with the sex trafficked people having no practical ability to leave due to withholding their passports or bank accounts from them.

EDIT: And also often getting the sex trafficking victims addicted to drugs.

Its human trafficking + facilitating or operating a business of prostitution or non consensual pornography production.

Unless you are going to be forcing your gf into prostitution as her pimp following your out of state dinner, then no, what you have described is not sex trafficking.

If she is unhappy with going to an out of state restaurant but ultimately consents to this, and then consents to sex afterward, this is just an awkward relationship with you being pretty weird and controlling, but its probably not a crime.

If, however you threaten her or force her or drug her to get to this out of state dinner, and the do the same to coercively have sex with her without her consent, then that's interstate kidnapping and rape... still not sex trafficking though.

And honestly the immigration laws thing is a stretch, although you're right to mention it as a common definition. There's a certain effort to associate all irregular migration with modern slavery, just as a rhetorical tool (and it's bullshit).

Moving vulnerable people to a new country is definitely a common element of sex trafficking, but it has nothing to do itself with whether a sex worker is being coerced or not.

is it only specific to Females or does it happen to Men too?

[-] sp3tr4l@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It can and does happen to men, and trans and intersex people as well, but its far more commonly associated with women.

Most of the market for prostitutes globally is men seeking women... but not always.

It... also happens with children of all sexes.

Its unfortunately not uncommon for a child to be either abducted or lured into sex slavery, though being technical that now becomes child sex trafficking or sex trafficking of a minor, which usually has even more harsh punishments.

You're probably not a native speaker, so please be warned - the term "female" is reserved for animals, just like the term "male". It can be viewed as rather disrespectful when talking about human beings. The right word to use is "woman". You used the word "man" correctly there while using the derogatory word "female" at the same time, which can make you seem misogynistic.

Thanks for telling me, I didn't know it :)

No problem, anytime :)

It could be fine in certain contexts - for example medical contexts - but I think an important distinction that made it stand out in your comment was that you used female for women but didn't use the equivalent "male" for men ๐Ÿ˜Š

It takes different forms, but one horrifying example is smuggling people in from poverty-stricken countries and forcing them to be sex slaves. People with no resources that have very little chance of rescue.

You're too young for this. Ask me again in 4 years

Rich people in american buying poor people for sex, so criminals have incentives to provide the poor people to the rich.

Any major sports event, party conventions, Olympics, WEF etc attracts a lot of sex trafficking. But since these johns are loaded, pigs don't do shit about it.

Slavery is always lurking around, it never went away.
