Art investors prefer art by dead artists, they can't do anything unexpected once they're dead.
They also can't produce anything new, which means the now limited resource can only appreciate in value.

it's the same w musicians, prince, michael jackson etc all made squillions after death. being an artist is a v dangerous profession
