In article's first chart, it lists China as competitive this year in robotics and machine tools. It is far more appropriate to call it a global leader in these categories, as that is where all of the manufacturing customers are.

In the future, please use the site’s actual URL, and if you like, put the archive.today link in the body. That way we know what site is being linked to, and if (really when) archive.today goes down, the context isn’t lost.

It is very hard to catch up without growing manufacturing base, which is hard to grow without machine tooling and robotics expertise.
