Archived version

People For the American Way today announced the launch of its new campaign, Resist Project 2025, a roadmap for immediate resistance to an incoming Trump administration and for a strong pro-democracy movement for freedom and justice. The plan calls for assembling a unique coalition of young progressive officials, faith leaders and artists to take prominent roles in resistance and reform.

"Make no mistake, the election result is horrifying and we should not kid ourselves: Trump 47 will be worse than last time. He has signaled he intends to preside over a regime of fascism and bigotry on steroids, one that will be empowered by a MAGA Supreme Court. That means the resistance must start now,” said Svante Myrick, president of People For the American Way.

I get we have to do this, but I'm sick and tired of playing defense. Be nice if there was a Democrat or Liberal plan to rally behind when we have the majority. Something relatively comprehensive so we don't end up relying on single issue voters.

In the actions page it lists three:

Tell your senators to confirm more judges - really? I need to tell them to do an obvious part of their job? Either they’re blue and they’re already doing that or they’re red and there’s no convincing them to go against their interests.

Take the pledge to vote against maga republicans - if you’re reading this site you already did that with negative effing results.

Regulate the use of AI in elections - weird choice of priorities but ok.

This masquerades as action but I don’t see any REAL action. We need to organize, plan, and execute real actions. Crash their parties, protest in front of offending politicians’ houses, 24/7 broadcasted surveillance of key offenders to apply real pressure to these wackos(if that’s legal, IANAL). If we keep doing what we’ve been doing we’ll keep getting the same results. We need to be large and loud and force our voices to be heard. We need our own news broadcasts calling them on their crap.

Yeah I don't think anything will change until disruptive protests happen. Like, republicans resigning from office because they're afraid.

Unfortunately, the far-right has almost all the money and guns, and a lot of bootlickers. And no one wants to throw their life away by shooting some red hats senators or billionaires.

Why work on resisting the popular majority in the democratic-ish country?

Should be underground railroadings women and queers out of America.

though the gop control the three branches, the election was still extremely close in fact. Also most of the win was more about rejecting biden and the cost of living increases, not necessarily support of far right beliefs (though support is still certainly growing and is significant).

But I think they are overestimating how much support they would have if they tried doing anything too extreme. Hopefully at least.

The foundation of democracy is the constitution and universal human rights, not the election result. Even if you'd get 99% of the votes in a democracy, you must be held accountable to the law, and that is not limited to, but includes the protection of minorities.

What? If you have money most laws don't apply to you in the country already.

The hard nationalist name is a great giveaway
