the real reason is that even Republicans can't stand him. They don't even care that he's a pedophile. They just find him unpleasant to work with and be around, a real noxious presence. As with all things, conservatives don't care unless it personally affects them.
More information just came out that forced his hand
Attorneys involved in a civil case brought by a Gaetz [Age 42] associate were notified this week that an unauthorized person accessed a file shared between lawyers that included unredacted depositions from a woman who has said Gaetz had sex with her when she was [a child], and a second woman who says she saw the encounter, according to attorney Joel Leppard.
Dude needs to go to jail.
The email notifying the lawyers about the apparent hack says a person named “Altam Beezley” downloaded the files, and when an attorney emailed the person to ask them to identify themselves, the email was returned because the email address was not found.
Lmao.

Trump built a broad coalition of alienated elements to push him over the finish line and now that he’s across it, it hardly helps him to stick his neck out to support them.
Then there is congress beyond that. The senate and house may have a majority of republicans, but they have elections they need to win in 2 to 4 years, and many of them don’t really care about the people in the coalition trump has built. They only need to support those elements that will be important to them winning future elections.
