Doesn't sound sad to me 🤷‍♂️

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 33 points 16 hours ago

Last sentence is right. It is very sad.

[-] caboose2006@lemmy.ca 23 points 16 hours ago

It isn't because he voted a certain way. It's because the person he supports and his followers make his daughters less safe. The person he supports is a rapist and by supporting him you tacitly condone rape. And the more people look the other way the more accepted it becomes. Your daughter's aren't in danger because of some migrants, your daughter's are in danger because weirdo men want to control their bodies to the point that they'll let your daughter's die to save a fetus. Whether or not you, the father, personally believe these things, you are empowering those that do. You are making the world a more scary and less safe place for your daughters.

Yeah, no wonder they don't want to associate with you. I wouldn't either

I think this story is fake. Its too perfect and his response is too sensible to be a real person. too much irony here to bear.

Isn't that Grant from ACW? Not american, but how does that work with a union general and MAGA?

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 4 points 13 hours ago

Well you see, in order to throw America away for a traitor felon, you have to brain damaged enough to believe the union busters lies about helping unions.

[-] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 13 hours ago

Wrong use of union there but good spirit

Union in the context of their comment means "The North" during the Civil War, its the United States (Union) of America vs Confederate States (Confederates) of America

They were pointing out how contradicting it is to have a Yank general (specifically Unconditional Surrender Grant, a PRESIDENT who fought for the North) is their PCP while being a MAGAt (usually pro-confederates)

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

Oh I gotcha, I totally misread that, thanks.

General Grant would not approve

[-] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 10 points 15 hours ago

I was about to say, General Grant annihilated the confederacy then President Grant tore apart the first KKK. He would probably beat the shit out of this member of the forth KKK.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 2 points 9 hours ago

If more women had held men accountable for this shit over the last 8~ years he wouldn't have been reelected. Don't tolerate these POS'.

[-] Chivera@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago

Yeah sure the daughters fell for the propaganda

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago

As much as I want to boycott my parents thanksgiving dinner, my dad is almost 80 and I only got so many days left to even hang out with him. Plus my mom is cool so I got that going for me.

[-] FeloniousPunk@lemmy.today 8 points 14 hours ago

My dad is almost 80 and a Trump supporter. Fuck that guy. Let him die lonely.

My dad is hardcore conservative, identifies as independent. My mom was Democratic, she's now hardcore Republican to reflect the political views of her 4th husband.

I want so badly to just not see any family for Thanksgiving because their political views are so dramatically opposed to mine, but that just doesn't feel right in my heart.

Everyone I love supports things I'm ethically and morally against, but shit dude, my circle of people is already so small. I want to have family and friends in my life, but I also want to surround myself with people who share my values. Unfortunately I have to choose one over the other, and that feels dirty.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 16 points 15 hours ago

Going no contact or limited contact is a personal decision everyone has to decide for themselves. I'm lucky enough to have boomer parents who aren't hateful/gullible conservatives.

[-] socsa@piefed.social 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

It is a personal choice, but it also enables fascism. It is important that we not ignore this.

People say "what would you do to stop the Nazis" and in America, we can't even bring ourselves to do the very minimum to socially isolated Nazis while that is still a viable option. How's it going to go if we need to take up arms against them? How many people are going to say "I know my father is marching with brownshirts who lynch gay people, but I'm pretty sure he isn't actually holding the rope."

I'm not from the US, but my mother held some questionable craycray views for a long time, but I only fully realized & saw the extend of it after the refugee crisis in 2014. I tried to somehow bear with her, but in the end, also for some other reasons, I had to cut her out of my life, simply for my own sake. I'm rather alone than surrounded by toxic people.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 15 hours ago

Doesn't have to be all or nothing. Maybe you can go every second one. Or go and if it comes up and gets heated you could leave?

If your children are going to disown you over who you voted for, then don't tell them who you voted for! Family harmony restored, simple as that!

But no, they need that persecution complex to solidify the false reality they've built in their minds.

[-] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 5 points 16 hours ago

I have to ask, are there conservatives in PDX?

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 16 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Sure. Oregon was initially established by white supremacists. It has an old culture of racism deep in its bones.

Plently of racist shitheads all over, even in liberal enclaves like portland.
