Is "Sparky" a pseudonym used by Schulz?

His uncle called him "Sparky" after the horse Spark Plug in Billy DeBeck's comic strip Barney Google, which Schulz enjoyed reading.

Doesn't say why he started using his real name with Peanuts, though
