The opinion section of any paper is a disaster not worth your time.

It's crazy how many people mistake opinion pieces for articles. This isn't the NYT's opinion. It's just that one person's opinion.

That's one hell of a conclusion to jump to. We've all got fucking eyes and can see the header, bozo.

If it was just some person's opinion, it would be posted as a Facebook screed, on a personal blog, Medium post, or Substack post. You get the picture. There's an infinite amount of places online to personally toss your own opinion up for the world to see.

While the opinion piece label is a very important disclaimer-- The New York Times reviewed, vetted, and made an active choice to publish this drivel and attach their name and reputation to it. Pretending that doesn't mean anything is a mistake.

It's their job to report what people are thinking and saying. That doesn't mean they endorse the opinion. Clearly, you also don't understand what an opinion section is.

If he’s such a hero, why is everyone happy he’s dead?

If both are class traitors than I support the one who didn't betray my class. But also engineers and tech workers are still working class and nowhere near CEO level.

I'm an engineer who went to private schools and came from a family of engineers. Doesn't mean I've never been homeless, doesn't mean my family wasn't financially fucked by health insurance. The middle class aren't ceo level even when we're a shrinking class

Apologies in advance, I may have just discovered my personal inner schizo.

Don't forget that there is a massive, coordinated campaign to get us to eat our own by overemphasizing life differences in the range of poverty to upper middle class while shrouding the realities of life in the 1% amd underemphasizing the difference between "can send my kid to private school" and "could build a private school for my kid".

On its face it sounds absolutely absurd to lump in Ivy League Greg with Trailer Park Steve, but they both have far more in common with each other than they do with multi-millionaires. The knee jerk almost primal rejection of that idea that comes quickly to most people is fucking intentionally taught into us.

The NYT has been garbage for a very long time.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 0 points 2 months ago

They really hate trans people, batman, and Hillary's email server that's all I know

[-] teslasaur@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

I think people are confused about what the "Opinion" page is. While i disagree with him, why would the times be accountable for opinion pieces?

[-] DaseinPickle@leminal.space 0 points 2 months ago

Because they publish it and promote the opinion?

[-] teslasaur@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

And they will have opinion pieces showing the other side too.

Are you saying they don't pay him? This isn't a letter to the editor you know.

[-] teslasaur@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

So by that logic, if you were an employer and your employee broke the law, you as the employer would be held accountable?

Thats the level of culpability that you imply. He who wrote the article is responsible for his opinion. Not the times.
