Plastic seems to me to be a bigger problem because there isn't a satisfactory solution in place, AFAICT.

Wanted to share this video because I think it sums up the problem pretty well, and does at least suggest a way forward.

But recycling plastic isn't working since ages, because plastic isn't just plastic. It's a mix of different plastics and you can't just throw them all together and create new things with it.
Some packaging isn't recyclable at all because of that.

The recycling myth is pushed from the industry since ever, because it puts the pressure on the consumer.
But even if we all nicely collect it plastic waste, most of it will just get burned for energy, because it can't be separated anymore.

We're just gangbang-fucked and we have no real way out of it
