This is a great way of explaining why I hate body positivity so much (I’m very glad body neutrality is becoming more of a thing). I’m so tired of people telling me to love the broken shell I inhabit, or telling me that it’s beautiful. Fuck that.
That is interesting. I have a friend with body dismorphia. I think there are different kinds of body dismorphia, and in his case, I trully do not think it represents reality. He is muscular, gym kind of physique, but he hates a certain part of it. I love the part that he hates, and I express it often. I wonder if I am doing the wrong thing? Should I be doing something else?
He should love himself not his body.
Oh, sure, I agree with that, 100%. But when he tells me "I hate my X, look at them, so bad", it feels wrong to just say "Oh, you should love yourself, not your body".
Well don't say it like that. Maybe ask him if it changes who he is.
